Karma

རང་དང་མཚུངས་ལྡན་གྱི་སེམས་ཡུལ་ལ་གཡོ་བར་བྱེད་པས་རབ་ཏུ་ཕྱེ་བའི་གཟུགས་ཅན་དུ་དམིགས་པ་དེ། ལས་ཀྱི་མཚན་ཉིད་དུ་བྱེ་བྲག་སྨྲ་བས་བཞེད་དེ།
Vaibhashika definition of karma: That observed as the physical phenomena distinguished by acting to move the minds concomitant with them towards objects.

དེས་ལས་ལ་གཟུགས་ཅན་གྱིས་ཁྱབ་པར་བཞེད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
This is because they assert that karma are pervaded by being physical.

དེ་ལྟ་བུའི་སེམས་བྱུང་ཀུན་འགྲོ་ཡིན་པར་དམིགས་པ། ལས་ཀྱི་མཚན་ཉིད་དུ་མདོ་སྡེ་པ་ཡན་ཆད་བཞེད་དེ།
Sautrantika definition of karma: That observed as an omnipresent mental factor distinguished as such.

མདོ་སྡེ་པ་ཡན་ཆད་ཀྱིས་ལས་ལ་གཟུགས་ཅན་མ་ཡིན་པས་ཁྱབ་པར་བཞེད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
This is because Sautrantika and above assert that karma are pervaded by being non-physical.

Divisions:

1. Karma that is intention སེམས་པའི་ལས།
   Mutually inclusive with mental karma དང་པོ་དང་ཡིད་ལས་དོན་གཅིག
2. Intended karma བསམ་པའི་ལས།
   1. Bodily karma ལུས་ཀྱི་ལས།
   2. Verbal karma ངག་གི་ལས།

Bodily and verbal karma are both subdivided into:

1. Revealing karma རྣམ་པར་རིག་བྱེད་ཀྱི་ལས།
   e.g. the physical actions of body (shape) and speech (sound)
2. Non-revealing karma རྣམ་པར་རིག་བྱེད་མ་ཡིན་པའི་ལས།

Other divisions of karma

General Characteristics:

• Karma is definite ལས་ངེས་པའི་ཚུལ།
• Karma increases ལས་འཕེལ་ཆེ་བ།
• Karma not created is not met with ལས་མ་བྱས་པ་དང་མི་ཕྲད་པ།
• That created is not lost བྱས་པ་ཆུད་མི་ཟ་བ།
• The way karma induce their fruitional results ལས་ཀྱི་རྣམ་སྨིན་གྱི་འབྲས་བུ་འབྱིན་ཚུལ་ལོ།
