ཉན་ཤེས་ཀྱི་དམིགས་རྐྱེན་བྱེད་པའི་རིགས་སུ་གནས་པས་རབ་ཏུ་ཕྱེ་བའི་ཕྱིའི་སྐྱེ་མཆེད་དུ་དམིགས་པ། སྒྲའི་སྐྱེ་མཆེད་ཀྱི་མཚན་ཉིད།
Definition: That observed as an external-source distinguished by abiding in the class of acting as the observed-object condition of the hearing-consciousness.

དོན་ལྔའི་ནང་ཚན་དུ་གྱུར་པའི་སྒྲ་དང་དོན་གཅིག
This and sound that is a subdivision of the five objects are mutually inclusive.

མཉན་བྱ། སྒྲའི་མཚན་ཉིད། སྒྲ་དང་སྒྲའི་སྐྱེ་མཆེད་དོན་གཅིག
Heard-object, characteristics of sound, sound, and sound-source are mutually inclusive.

Divisions (8): དབྱེ་ན་བརྒྱད་ཡོད་དེ།

• Sound arisen from conjoined elements ཟིན་པའི་འབྱུང་བ་ལས་གྱུར་བའི་སྒྲ།
  1. Pleasant sound conveying [meaning] to sentient beings དེ་ལྟ་བུའི་སེམས་ཅན་དུ་སྟོན་པའི་སྙན་པའི་སྒྲ།
     e.g. the sound of being explaining dharma སྐྱེས་བུས་ཆོས་བཤད་པའི་སྒྲ་ལྟ་བུ།
  2. Unpleasant sound conveying [meaning] to sentient beings དེ་ལྟ་བུའི་སེམས་ཅན་དུ་སྟོན་པའི་མི་སྙན་པའི་སྒྲ།
     e.g. beings speaking harsh words སྐྱེས་བུས་ཚིག་རྩུབ་སྨྲ་བ་ལྟ་བུ།
  3. Pleasant sound not conveying [meaning] to sentient beings དེ་ལྟ་བུའི་སེམས་ཅན་དུ་མི་སྟོན་པའི་སྙན་པའི་སྒྲ།
     e.g. the sound of a musical instrument ཕེག་རྡོབ་པའི་སྒྲ་ལྟ་བུ།
  4. Unpleasant sound not conveying [meaning] to sentient beings དེ་ལྟ་བུའི་སེམས་ཅན་དུ་མི་སྟོན་པའི་མི་སྙན་པའི་སྒྲ།
     e.g. the sound of a banging fist ཁུ་ཚུར་བརྡེག་པའི་སྒྲ་ལྟ་བུ།
• Sound arisen from non-conjoined elements མ་ཟིན་པའི་འབྱུང་བ་ལས་གྱུར་པའི་སྒྲ།
  1. Pleasant sound conveying [meaning] to sentient beings དེ་ལྟ་བུའི་སེམས་ཅན་དུ་སྟོན་པའི་སྙན་པའི་སྒྲ།
     e.g. the sound of an emanation explaining dharma སྤྲུལ་པས་ཆོས་བཤད་པའི་སྒྲ་ལྟ་བུ།
  2. Unpleasant sound conveying [meaning] to sentient beings དེ་ལྟ་བུའི་སེམས་ཅན་དུ་སྟོན་པའི་མི་སྙན་པའི་སྒྲ།
     e.g. the sound of an emanation harsh words སྤྲུལ་པས་ཚིག་རྩུབ་སྨྲ་བའི་སྒྲ་ལྟ་བུ།
  3. Pleasant sound not conveying [meaning] to sentient beings དེ་ལྟ་བུའི་སེམས་ཅན་དུ་མི་སྟོན་པའི་སྙན་པའི་སྒྲ།
     e.g. the sound of a drum རྔའི་སྒྲ་ལྟ་བུ།
  4. Unpleasant sound not conveying [meaning] to sentient beings དེ་ལྟ་བུའི་སེམས་ཅན་དུ་མི་སྟོན་པའི་མི་སྙན་པའི་སྒྲ།
     e.g. the sound of breaking rocks བྲག་རལ་བའི་སྒྲ་ལྟ་བུ།
