Death and Impermanence

Three roots, nine reasons, three decisions རྩ་བ་གསུམ། རྒྱུ་མཚན་དགུ ཐག་ཅད་པ་རྣམ་པ་གསུམ།

1. Death is Certain ངེས་པར་འཆི་བ།
   1. The Lord of Death will definitely come and there is nothing that will prevent it
      འཆི་བདག་ངེས་པར་འོང་ལ་རྐྱེན་གང་གིས་ཀྱང་བཟློག་ཏུ་མེད་པ།
   2. One’s lifetime cannot be extended and constantly diminishes
      ཚེ་ལ་སྣོན་པ་མེད་པ་ཅིང་འབྲི་བྱེད་བར་མ་ཆད་དུ་ཡོད་པ།
   3. Even when alive, there is little time for practice
      གསོན་པའི་ཚེ་ན་ཡང་ཆོས་བྱ་བའི་ལོང་མེད་པ།
      Therefore: Decide that one must practice. དེ་ལྟར་ན་ཆོས་བྱ་དགོས་པ་ལ་ཐག་བཅད།
2. The Time of Death is Uncertain ནམ་འཆི་ངེས་མེད།
   1. The lifespan in this world is uncertain འཛམ་བུ་གླིང་བའི་ཚེ་ལ་ངེས་པ་མེད།
   2. There are many causes of death but causes for life are few འཆི་རྐྱེན་ཤིན་ཏུ་མང་ཞིང་གསོན་རྐྱེན་ཉུང་བ།
   3. The body is very fragile ལུས་ཤིན་ཏུ་ཉམ་ཆུང་བ།
      Therefore: Decide to practice starting now. དེ་ལྟར་ན་ད་ལྟ་ཉིད་ནས་ཆོས་བྱ་བར་ཐག་གཅོད།
3. At the time of death, nothing helps but our practice འཆི་བའི་ཚེ་ཆོས་མ་གཏོགས་གཞན་གང་གིས་ཀྱང་མི་ཕན་པ།
   1. Friends and relatives cannot help གཉེན་ནམ་བཤེས་མི་ཕན་པ།
   2. Our wealth cannot help ནོར་གྱི་ཕུང་པོ་མི་ཕན་པ།
   3. Our body cannot help ཤ་རུས་མི་ཕན་པ།
      Contemplate how, at the time of death, only our practice serves as a refuge, a protector, a defence.
      དེའི་དུས་སུ་ནི། ཆོས་འབའ་ཞིག་སྐྱབས་དང་མགོན་དང་དཔུང་གཉེན་དུ་འགྱུར་ཚུལ་བསམ་པར་བྱ།

• Gain and Loss (Not gaining) རྙེད་པ་དང་མ་རྙེད་པ།
• Fame and Disgrace སྙན་གྲགས་དང་མ་གྲགས།
• Praise and Blame བསྟོད་པ་དང་སྨད་པ།
• Happiness and Suffering བདེ་བ་དང་སྡུག་བསྔལ།
