Absorption of cessation

རང་འཐོབ་བྱེད་ཀྱི་ཐབས་སུ་གྱུར་པའི་འཇིག་རྟེན་ལས་འདས་པའི་ལམ་དང་སྲིད་རྩེའི་དངོས་གཞིའི་སྙོམས་འཇུག་ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་ཐོབ་ཅིང་
སྲིད་རྩེ་ལ་འདོད་ཆགས་དང་བྲལ་བའི་རིགས་སུ་གནས་པས་རབ་ཏུ་ཕྱེ་བའི་སྟོང་ཉིད་མངོན་སུམ་དུ་རྟོགས་པའི་ཡེ་ཤེས་དེ། འགོག་སྙོམས་ཀྱི་མཚན་ཉིད།
Definition: An exalted wisdom directly realising emptiness distinguished by:

1. Being attained in dependence upon the supramundane path and actual Peak of Existence absorption that are its method of attainment; and
2. Abiding in the class of being separated from attachment to the Peak of Existence.

ས་དྲུག་པའི་སྔ་རོལ་ས་ལྔ་པ་མན་ཆད་དུ་འདིར་བསྟན་ཐུན་མོང་མ་ཡིན་པའི་འགོག་སྙོམས་མི་ཐོབ་སྟེ།
ས་ལྔ་པ་མན་ཆད་དུ་ཤེར་ཕྱིན་ལྷག་པའི་ཡོན་ཏན་ཁྱད་པར་ཅན་མ་ཐོབ་པའི་ཕྱིར།
The uncommon absorption of cessation indicated in this context is not attained prior to the sixth ground (i.e. on the fifth ground of below) because on the fifth ground and below one has not attained the special qualities of the surpassing perfection of wisdom.

རང་གི་ཉེར་ལེན་དུ་གྱུར་པའི་བསམ་གཏན་གྱི་ཕར་ཕྱིན་གྱི་ཉམས་ལེན་ལྷག་པ་ལས་བྱུང་ཞིང་། གྲོགས་ཤེར་ཕྱིན་གྱི་ཉམས་ལེན་ལྷག་པས་ཟིན་པའི་སྒོ་ནས་
ཆོས་ཉིད་ལ་མངོན་སུམ་དུ་མཉམ་པར་གཞག་པའི་མཉམ་གཞག་ཡེ་ཤེས་དེ། ཐུན་མོང་མ་ཡིན་པའི་འགོག་སྙོམས་ཀྱི་དོན་ཡིན།
Panchen: Meaning of uncommon absorption of cessation is: An exalted wisdom of meditative equipoise that is in direct equipoise on dharmata by way of 1) being arisen from the surpassing practice of the perfection of concentration that is its substantial cause and 2) being conjoined by its assisting surpassing practice of the perfection of wisdom.

ས་དྲུག་པའི་མཉམ་གཞག་ཡེ་ཤེས་ཆོས་ཅན། འགོག་པའི་སྙོམས་འཇུག་ཅེས་རྗོད་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་ཡོད་དེ། དེ་བཞིན་ཉིད་ལ་འགོག་པ་ཞེས་བྱ་ལ།
དེ་ལ་སྙོམས་པར་འཇུག་པའི་ཡེ་ཤེས་ཡིན་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་གྱིས་དེ་ལྟར་རྗོད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
Etymology: The subject - the exalted wisdom of meditative equipoise of the sixth ground - there is a reason for referring to it as the absorption of cessation: "cessation" is referring to suchness and it is an exalted wisdom that is absorbed into that.

དེ་བཞིན་ཉིད་ལ་འགོག་པ་ཞེས་བརྗོད་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་ཡོད་དེ། དེ་བཞིན་ཉིད་མངོན་སུམ་དུ་རྟོགས་པའི་ཡེ་ཤེས་དེ། གཉིས་སྣང་གི་སྤྲོས་པ་བཀག་པའི་ཡེ་ཤེས་ཡིན་པའི་ཕྱིར།
There is a reason for referring to suchness as "cessation" because the exalted wisdom directly realising suchness is an exalted wisdom that has ceased elaborations of dualistic appearances.

དེ་ཡང་སྒྲ་བཤད་པ་ཙམ་ཡིན་གྱི། སྟོང་ཉིད་ལ་གཉིས་སྣང་ནུབ་པའི་ཡེ་ཤེས་ཡིན་ན་འགོག་པའི་སྙོམས་འཇུག་ཡིན་མི་དགོས་ཏེ།
འགོག་སྙོམས་འཐོབ་པ་ལ་སྲིད་རྩེའི་དངོས་གཞིའི་སྙོམས་འཇུག་ཐོབ་དགོས་པའི་ཕྱིར་དང་། འགོག་སྙོམས་འཐོབ་པ་ལ་འདས་ལམ་ཐོབ་པ་སྔོན་དུ་འགྲོ་དགོས་པའི་ཕྱིར།
This is just an etymology; if it is an exalted wisdom for which dualistic appearances have disappeared wrt emptiness, then it is not necessarily an absorption of cessation because:

1. The attainment of the absorption of cessation requires the attainment of the actual absorption of the Peak of Existent; and
2. The attainment of the absorption of cessation is necessarily preceded by the attainment of a supramundane path.

ཡར་འོང་ཐོད་རྒལ་ལ་འགོག་པ་སྤེལ་བ་ཡོད་པར་གསུངས་པ་མི་རིགས་པར་ཐལ།
ཡར་འོང་ཐོད་རྒལ་གྱི་སྤེལ་གཞི་བསམ་གཟུགས་བརྒྱད་པོ་དང་སྤེལ་ཆོས་འགོག་པ་གཉིས་ཀ་འགོག་པའི་སྙོམས་འཇུག་ཏུ་མཚུངས་པའི་ཕྱིར་ཏེ།
It follows that it is incorrect to indicate the existence of alternation with cessation for leaping going up (see: Actual leaping meditative absorptions) because both the eight concentrations and absorptions (the basis for alternation) and cessation (that alternated) are the same in being an absorption of cessation;

དེའི་སྤེལ་གཞི་བསམ་གཟུགས་བརྒྱད་པོ་དེ་འགོག་པའི་སྙོམས་འཇུག་ཡིན་པའི་ཕྱིར་ཏེ།
བྱང་སེམས་སྒོམ་ལམ་པའི་རྒྱུད་ཀྱི་ཆོས་ཉིད་ལ་རྩེ་གཅིག་ཏུ་མཉམ་པར་བཞག་པའི་མཉམ་གཞག་ཡེ་ཤེས་ཡིན་ན། འགོག་པའི་སྙོམས་འཇུག་ཡིན་དགོས་པའི་ཕྱིར།
because the eight concentrations and absorptions (the basis for alternation) are absorptions of cessation; because if it is an exalted wisdom of meditative equipoise in single-pointed equipoise on dharmata in the continuum of a Bodhisattva on the path of meditation, then it is necessarily an absorption of cessation.

ཡར་འོང་ཐོད་རྒལ་གྱི་འགོག་པ་དང་མར་འོང་ཐོད་རྒལ་གྱི་འགོག་པ་གཉིས་ལ་ཞི་མ་ཞིའི་ཁྱད་པར་མེད་པར་ཐལ།
དེ་གཉིས་ཀ་ཆོས་ཉིད་ལ་རྩེ་གཅིག་ཏུ་མཉམ་པར་བཞག་པའི་མཉམ་གཞག་ཡེ་ཤེས་སུ་མཚུངས་པའི་ཕྱིར། རྟགས་ཁས།
If follows that there is no difference in terms of being peaceful or not in relation to the cessation used for leaping going up and the cessation used for leaping going down because both are the same in being exalted wisdoms of meditative equipoise in single-pointed equipoise on dharmata. You asserted the sign.
