Buddhapalita's syllogism

Example syllogism དཔེའི་སྦྱོར་བ།

• Sound is impermanent because product is pervaded by impermanent. སྒྲ་ནི་མི་རྟག་སྟེ། བྱས་ན་མི་རྟག་པས་ཁྱབ་པའི་ཕྱིར།
• Product is pervaded by pot: for example, like pot. བྱས་ན་མི་རྟག་པས་ཁྱབ་སྟེ་དཔེར་ན་བུམ་པ་བཞིན།
• Just like pot is a product, sound is also a product. བུམ་པ་བྱས་པ་དེ་བཞིན་དུ་སྒྲ་ཡང་བྱས།
• Therefore, due to sound being a product, sound is impermanent. དེ་བས་ན་སྒྲ་བྱས་པའི་ཕྱིར་སྒྲ་མི་རྟག་གོ

Meaning syllogism དོན་གྱི་སྦྱོར་བ།

• Things being produced again is senseless because if it is already established as its own entity, then it is pervaded by its repeated production being senseless.
  དངོས་པོ་རྣམས་སླར་ཡང་སྐྱེ་བ་དོན་མེད་དེ། རང་གི་བདག་ཉིད་དུ་གྲུབ་ཟིན་ན་སླར་ཡང་སྐྱེ་བ་དོན་མེད་པས་ཁྱབ་པའི་ཕྱིར།
• There is pervasion: for example, like a sprout that has already manifested.
  ཁྱབ་སྟེ། དཔེར་ན། མངོན་པར་གསལ་ཟིན་པའི་མྱུ་གུ་བཞིན།
• Just like the sprout that has already manifested is already established as its own entity, things are established as their own entity.
  མངོན་པར་གསལ་ཟིན་པའི་མྱུ་གུ་རང་གི་བདག་ཉིད་དུ་གྲུབ་ཟིན་པ་དེ་བཞིན་དུ་དངོས་པོ་རྣམས་རང་གི་བདག་ཉིད་དུ་གྲུབ་པ་ཡིན་ནོ།
• Therefore, due to things being established as their own entity, things being produced again is senseless.
  དེ་བས་ན་དངོས་པོ་རྣམས་རང་གི་བདག་ཉིད་དུ་གྲུབ་ཟིན་པའི་ཕྱིར། དངོས་པོ་རྣམས་སླར་ཡང་སྐྱེ་བ་དོན་མེད་དོ།

This is a meaning-syllogism possessing the five branches. འདི་ནི་དོན་སྦྱོར་ཡན་ལག་ལྔ་ལྡན་ནོ།

The five branches: ཡན་ལག་ལྔ་ནི།

1. Expressing the assertion: "Things being produced again is senseless"
   དངོས་པོ་རྣམས་སླར་ཡང་སྐྱེ་བ་དོན་མེད་དེ། ཞེས་པས་དམ་བཅའ་བརྗོད།
2. Expressing the pervasion: "because if it is already established as its own entity, then it is pervaded by its repeated production being senseless."
   རང་གི་བདག་ཉིད་དུ་གྲུབ་ཟིན་ན་སླར་ཡང་སྐྱེ་བ་དོན་མེད་པས་ཁྱབ་པའི་ཕྱིར། ཞེས་པས་ཁྱབ་པ་བརྗོད།
3. Expressing the example by way of connecting the pervasion with an example: "There is pervasion: for example, like a sprout that has already manifested."
   དེ་ཁྱབ་སྟེ། དཔེར་ན། མངོན་པར་གསལ་ཟིན་པའི་མྱུ་གུ་བཞིན། ཞེས་པས། ཁྱབ་པ་དཔེ་དང་ཉེ་བར་སྦྱོར་བའི་སྒོ་ནས་དཔེ་བརྗོད།
4. Indicating it being complementary: "Just like the sprout that has already manifested is already established as its own entity, things are established as their own entity."
   མངོན་པར་གསལ་ཟིན་པའི་མྱུ་གུ་རང་གི་བདག་ཉིད་དུ་གྲུབ་ཟིན་པ་དེ་བཞིན་དུ་དངོས་པོ་རྣམས་རང་གི་བདག་ཉིད་དུ་གྲུབ་ཟིན་པ་ཡིན་ནོ།
   ཞེས་པས་ཉེར་བསྟོད་བསྟན།
5. Indicating the summary: "Therefore, due to things being established as their own entity, things being produced again is senseless."
   དེ་བས་ན་དངོས་པོ་རྣམས་རང་གི་བདག་ཉིད་དུ་གྲུབ་ཟིན་པའི་ཕྱིར། དངོས་པོ་རྣམས་སླར་ཡང་སྐྱེ་བ་དོན་མེད་དོ། །ཞེས་པས་མཇུག་སྡུད་ཀྱི་ཡན་ལག་བསྟན་པ་ཡིན་ནོ།

དོན་བསྡུ་ན། དངོས་པོ་རྣམས་ཆོས་ཅན། སླར་ཡང་སྐྱེ་བ་དོན་མེད་དེ། རང་གི་བདག་ཉིད་དུ་གྲུབ་ཟིན་པའི་ཕྱིར། དཔེར་ན། མངོན་པར་གསལ་ཟིན་པའི་མྱུ་གུ་བཞིན་ནོ།
In short: The subject - things - their repeated production is senseless because they are already established as their own entity; for example, just like a sprout that has already manifested.
