Four great reasonings refuting establishment by own-character (Gomde)

Three consequences to refute inherent existence (from the Root Text):

  1. Refutation via the Arya meditative equipoise
  2. Refutation via withstanding ultimate analysis
  3. Refutation via non-refutation of ultimate production

ཀུན་བརྩེགས་ཀྱི་མདོ་སོགས་ལས། ཆོས་རྣམས་ཉིད་སྟོང་པ་ཉིད་དང་། ཞེས་ཆོས་རྣམས་རང་ངོས་ནས་སྟོང་པའམ་རང་སྟོང་བསྟན་པར་མི་འཐད་པར་ཐལ།
ཆོས་རྣམས་རང་གི་མཚན་ཉིད་ཀྱིས་གྲུབ་པའི་ཕྱིར།
It follows that sutras such as the Mound of Jewels Sutra stating "Phenomena themselves are just empty", indicating phenomena as empty from their own side, i.e. self-empty, are incorrect because phenomena are established by way of their own-character.

ཁྱབ་སྟེ། རང་གི་མཚན་ཉིད་ཀྱིས་གྲུབ་པས་སྟོང་པ་ལས་གཞན་པའི་སྟོང་ཉིད་ནི། རང་སྟོང་མ་ཡིན་ལ་གཞན་སྟོང་ཡིན་པའི་ཕྱིར།
There is pervasion because emptinesses that are other than being empty of being established by way of own-character are not self-empty but rather other-empty.
