Gyaltsab Je's Notes on the Eight Difficult Points
སློབ་དཔོན་འཕགས་པ་ཀླུ་སྒྲུབ་ཀྱིས་མཛད་པའི་རྩ་བ་ཤེས་རབ་ལ། འགྲེལ་པ་གྲགས་ཆེ་བ་བརྒྱད་དུ་ཡོད་ལ་དེའི་ནང་ནས་ཀྱང་དགོངས་པ་ཕྱིན་ཅི་མ་ལོག་པར་འགྲེལ་བ་ནི། སློབ་དཔོན་སངས་རྒྱས་བསྐྱངས་དང༌། སློབ་དཔོན་ཟླ་བ་གྲགས་པ་གཉིས་ཀྱིས་མཛད་པ་འདི་གཉིས་ཡིན་ལ།
There are eight greatly renown commentaries on the Root Wisdom composed by the Acharya Arya Nagarjuna and from among those, the ones that correctly interpret his intention are those composed by the Acharya Buddhapalita and the Acharya Chandrakirti.
དེ་ལའང་འགྲེལ་བྱེད་གཞན་དང་མི་མཐུན་པའི་ཁྱད་པར་ཕྲ་མོ་མཐའ་ཡས་ཀྱང་གནད་དུ་ཆེ་བ་བརྒྱད་ཡིན་གསུང་སྟེ།
Although there are limitless subtle differences that are discordant with other commentators, the main points are said to be eight:
- Occasion of the path: གཞིའི་སྐབས་སུ་
- Not asserting own-character even conventionally ཐ་སྙད་དུའང་རང་མཚན་དང༌།
- Not asserting an ālāyavijñāna ཀུན་གཞི་ཁས་མི་ལེན་ཞིང༌།
- Asserting external objects ཕྱི་དོན་ཁས་ལེན་པ་དང༌།
- Occasion of the path: ལམ་གྱི་སྐབས་ལ་
- Not asserting autonomous signs as a means for realising emptiness དེ་ཁོ་ན་ཉིད་རྟོགས་པའི་ཐབས་སུ་རང་རྒྱུད་དང༌།
- Not asserting self-knowers རང་རིག་ཁས་མི་ལེན་ཞིང༌།
- The way of positing the two obscurations སྒྲིབ་གཉིས་ཀྱི་འཇོག་ཚུལ་དང༌།
- Asserting that Hearers and Solitary Realisers realise phenomena lack inherent existence
ཉན་རང་ལ་ཆོས་རང་བཞིན་མེད་པར་རྟོགས་པ་ཁས་ལེན་པའི་ཚུལ་དང༌།
- Occasion of the result: འབྲས་བུའི་སྐབས་སུ་
- The way in which the Buddha knows varieties སངས་རྒྱས་ཀྱི་ཇི་སྙེད་པ་མཁྱེན་པའི་ཚུལ་ཏེ།
In this way, there are four assertions and four non-assertions. ཁས་ལེན་པའི་དམ་བཅའ་བཞི་དང༌། མི་ལེན་པའི་ཕྱོགས་བཞིའོ།
