Indicating that refuting other-powered natures and worldly conventions is not the same

དབུ་མ་པ་ཁྱོད་ཀྱིས་གཞན་དབང་རང་བཞིན་གྱིས་གྲུབ་པ་འགོག་ན་འཇིག་རྟེན་གྱི་ཐ་སྙད་ཀྱང་འགོག་པར་མཚུངས་སོ་ཞེ་ན།
Cittamatrins say: If you Madhyamikas refute inherently established other-powered natures, then you equally refute also worldly conventions.

དེ་གཉིས་མི་མཚུངས་ཏེ། ཇི་ལྟར་སེམས་ཙམ་པ་ཁྱོད་ཀྱིས་གཞན་དབང་དངོས་པོ་སྟེ་རང་བཞིན་གྱིས་གྲུབ་པར་འདོད་པ་ལྟར།
ཀུན་རྫོབ་ཀྱང་ནི་རང་བཞིན་གྱིས་གྲུབ་པར་དབུ་མ་བདག་གིས་ཁས་མ་བླངས་པའི་ཕྱིར་རོ།
Answer: Those two are not the same because similar to your Cittamatra assertion that other-powered natures are inherently established, we Madhyamikas also do not assert that conventionalities are inherently established.

འོ་ན། སྐབས་གང་དུ་ཡང་ཕུང་སོགས་རང་བཞིན་གྱིས་གྲུབ་པར་ཁས་མི་ལེན་ནམ་ཞེ་ན།
Do you never assert that the aggregates and so forth are inherently established?

སྐབས་འགར་ཕུང་སོགས་འདི་དག་རང་བཞིེན་གྱིས་མེད་ཀྱང་ཡིད་དོ་ཞེས་འཇིག་རྟེན་གྱི་ངོར་བྱས་ནས་དབུ་མ་པ་བདག་གིས་ནི་སྨྲ་བར་བྱེད་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་ཡོད་དེ།
གདུལ་བྱ་འགའ་ཞིག་གྲུབ་མཐའ་ངན་པ་ལས་བཟློག་ནས་དེ་ཁོ་ན་ཉིད་ལ་ཁ་དྲངས་པའི་འབྲས་བུ་སྟེ་དགོས་པའི་ཆེད་དུ་ཡིན་པའི་ཕྱིར།
Answer: Sometimes, although the aggregates and so forth do not inherently exist, there is a reason for Madhyamikas to propound to the world that they do because it's purpose is in order to turn some disciples away from bad tenets and lead them to suchness.

ཀུན་རྫོབ་རང་བཞིན་གྱིས་གྲུབ་པར་ཁས་མི་ལེན་ན། འོ་ན། ཁྱོད་ཀྱིས་ཀུན་རྫོབ་ཇི་ལྟར་ཡོད་པར་ཁས་ལེན་ཞེ་ན།
If you do not assert that conventionalities are inherently established, then how do you assert the existence of conventionalities?

ཤེས་བྱ་ཆོས་ཅན། འཇིག་རྟེན་གྱི་ཐ་སྙད་ལ་ལྟོས་ནས་བདག་གིས་ཀུན་རྫོབ་ཁས་བླངས་ཀྱི་དེ་ལ་མ་ལྟོས་པར་རང་དབང་དུ་ཀུན་རྫོབ་ཁས་མ་བླངས་ཏེ།
ཇི་ལྟར་ཏེ་དཔེར་ན་སེམས་ཙམ་པ་ཁྱོད་ལྟར་ན་ཟག་བཅས་ཀྱི་ཕུང་པོ་སྤངས་ནས་ལྷག་མེད་ཀྱི་ཞི་བར་ཞུགས་པའི་དགྲ་བཅོམ་པ་རྣམས་ཀྱི་རྒྱུད་ལ་
ཟག་བཅས་ཀྱི་ཕུང་པོ་ཡོད་པ་མ་ཡིན་པར་འདོད་པ། དེ་ལྟར་དུ་འཇིག་རྟེན་གྱི་ཐ་སྙད་ལ་ཡང་ཀུན་རྫོབ་འདི་དག་མེད་ན་ལྷག་མེད་པའི་ཟག་བཅས་ཀྱི་ཕུང་པོ་དེ་བཞིན་དུ་
ཀུན་རྫོབ་འདི་དག་འཇིག་རྟེན་གྱི་ཐ་སྙད་ལ་ལྟོས་ནས་ཀྱང་ཡོད་ཅེས་བདག་གིས་མི་སྨྲ་བའི་ཕྱིར།
Answer: The subject - objects of knowledge - we assert conventionalities in relation to worldly conventions and do not assert conventionalities independently without relying on those because, for example, just as you Cittamatrins assert that having abandoned the contaminated aggregates, those do not exist in the continua of Arhats who have entered peace without remainder, similarly, if these conventionalities did not exist even among worldly conventions, then like the contaminated aggregates of the [Arhat] without remainder, we would not propound that these conventionalities exist even in relation to worldly conventions.

དེ་ལ་སེམས་ཙམ་པ་ན་རེ། ཁྱོད་ཀྱིས་གཞན་དབང་རང་བཞིན་གྱིས་གྲུབ་པ་འགོག་ན།
ཁོ་བོས་ཀྱང་ཁྱོད་འདོད་པའི་ཀུན་རྫོབ་ཀྱི་རྣམ་གཞག་འདི་དག་འཇིག་རྟེན་གྱི་ཐ་སྙད་དུ་ཡང་དགག་པར་བྱའོ་ཞེ་ན།
The Cittamatrins say: If you refute inherently established other-powered natures, then we should refute your presentation of conventionalities even in terms of worldly convention.

སེམས་ཙམ་པ་ཆོས་ཅན། གལ་ཏེ་ཁྱོད་ལ་འཇིག་རྟེན་གྱི་གྲགས་པས་མི་གནོད་ན་འཇིག་རྟེན་ཉིད་ལ་ལྟོས་ནས་ཀུན་རྫོབ་འདི་ནི་ཐ་སྙད་དུ་ཡང་དགག་པར་བགྱིས་
རིགས་པར་ཐལ། མ་དག་འཁྲུལ་བའི་སྣང་བ་འདི་སེལ་ཕྱིར་ལམ་ལ་དཀའ་བ་བརྒྱ་ཕྲག་རྩོམ་མི་དགོས་པར་ངེད་ཀྱིས་ཀྱང་ཁྱོད་ལ་གྲོགས་བྱ་བར་རིགས་པའི་ཕྱིར།
Answer: The subject - Cittamatrins - it follows that if you are not undermined by worldly renown, then it is logical to refute these conventionalities in relation to the world itself because without exerting yourself in hundreds of hardships in the path to eliminate these impure mistaken appearances, we can also assist you.

དེ་ཆོས་ཅན། ཁྱོད་དང་འཇིག་རྟེན་གཉིས་ཀུན་རྫོབ་ཡོད་མེད་འདིར་ནི་རྩོད་པར་བགྱིས་དང་བརྩད་པའི་ཕྱིས་ནས་གང་སྟོབས་དང་ལྡན་པ་འཇིག་རྟེན་གྱི་ཐ་སྙད་དེ་ལ་
དབུ་མ་བདག་གིས་བརྟེན་པར་བྱ་སྟེ། ཁྱོད་ཀྱིས་ཕྱི་རོལ་ཀུན་རྫོབ་བཀག་པ་ལ་འཇིག་རྟེན་གྱི་ཚད་མས་གནོད་པས་འཇིག་རྟེན་སྟོབས་དང་ལྡན་པའི་ཕྱིར།
That subject, you and the world should debate about whether conventionalities exist or not and afterwards, we Madhyamikas will rely upon the winner, worldly conventions, because your refutation of external conventionalities is undermined by worldly valid cognition and therefore the world will win.
