Indicating that self-knowers are unfeasible also using other reasonings
སེམས་ཙམ་པ་ཆོས་ཅན། ཁྱོད་ཀྱི་གཞན་དབང་གི་ཤེས་པ་རང་བཞིན་གྱིས་གྲུབ་པ་ཚད་མ་གང་གིས་འཛིན་པར་འགྱུར་ཏེ་མི་འགྱུར་པར་ཐལ།
དེ་འཛིན་པ་ཡོད་ན་རང་རིག་གིས་འཇིན་དགོས་པ་གང་ཞིག རང་རིག་ཡོད་པ་མ་ཡིན་པའི་ཕྱིར་ཏེ། དེ་བཀག་ཟིན་པ་དེའི་ཕྱིར།
The subject - Cittamatrins - it follows that your inherently established other-powered consciousnesses are not apprehended by any valid cognition because 1) if an apprehension of those exists, then they are necessarily apprehended by self-knowers and 2) self-knower do not exist; because those have already been refuted.
གཞན་ཡང་རང་རིག་འདོད་པ་མི་འཐད་དེ། དེ་ལ་ཤེས་བྱེད་མེད་ཅིང་གནོད་བྱེད་ཡོད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
Moreover, asserting self-knowers is incorrect because it has no proofs and has refutations.
ཇི་ལྟར་ཡོད་ན། རང་རིག་དེ་ཉིད་ཀྱིས་གཞན་དབང་གི་ཤེས་པ་རང་བཞིན་གྱིས་གྲུབ་པ་དེ་འཛིན་པར་རིགས་པའང་མ་ཡིན་ཏེ།
བྱེད་པ་པོ་དང་ལས་དང་བྱ་བ་གསུམ་ནི་གཅིག་ཉིད་དུ་རིགས་པ་མ་ཡིན་པའི་ཕྱིར།
How so? It is not logical that self-knowers apprehend inherently established other-powered consciousnesses because it is illogical that the three - agent, object, and action - are just one.
ཁབ་སྟེ། རང་རིག་འདོད་ན་བྱ་བྱེད་ལས་གསུམ་གཅིག་ཏུ་འགྱུར་བའིེ་ཕྱིར།
There is pervasion because if self-knowers are asserted, then agent, object, and action become one.
ཇི་ལྟར་འགྱུར་ན། དེ་ཡང་རང་རིག་འདོད་པས་སྔོན་འཛིན་ཤེས་པའི་སྟེང་ན་དེ་མ་ཐག་རྐྱེན་གྱིས་ལག་རྗེས་བཞག་པའི་མྱོང་བ་གསལ་རིག་གི་ངོ་བོ་གཅིག་དང་།
དམིགས་རྐྱེན་གྱིས་ལག་རྗེས་བཞག་པའི་སྔོན་སྣང་དབང་ཤེས་གཉིས་ཡོད་ལ།
How so? Due to asserting self knowers, then on the basis of a consciousness apprehending blue there exist:
- An entity of clear and knowing experience that is the effect of the immediately preceding condition; and
- The sense-consciousness to which blue appears that is the effect of the observed object condition.
དེའི་སྔ་མ་དེ་མྱོང་བྱེད་རང་རིག་དང་། ཕྱི་མ་དེའི་མྱོང་བྱའི་ཡུལ་དུ་འདོད་ཅིང་།
The previous is the experiencer, the self-knower, and the latter is asserted as its experienced-object.
མྱོང་བྱ་མྱོང་བྱེད་གཉིས་ཀྱང་ཐ་དད་ཁོ་ནར་འདོད་ལ།
དེ་ལྟ་བུའི་རིག་བྱ་རིག་བྱེད་ལ་ཡིད་ཅི་ཙམ་གཏད་ཀྱང་ཐ་དད་པའི་རྣམ་པ་ཆར་རྒྱུ་མེད་ཅིང་སྒྲུབ་བྱེད་ཀྱང་མནའ་ཙམ་དུ་ཟད་ལ།
The experiencer and experienced are asserted as just different. However, no matter how much the mind is focused on such knower and known, an aspect of difference will not appear and the proof is also nothing but a promise.
དེ་ལྟ་ནའང་འཐད་པའི་བྱ་བྱེད་དུ་འདོད་ན། བྱ་བྱེད་ལས་གསུམ་གཅིག་ཏུ་འགྱུར་ཞེས་པའོ། ལེགས་པར་བཤད་དོ།
If that is nevertheless asserted as a feasible object and agent, then agent, object, and actions become one. This is well explained.
སྔོ་འཛིན་མྱོང་བྱེད་ཀྱི་རང་རིག་དེ་ཁ་ནང་ཁོ་ན་ལ་ཕྱོགས་པའི་གཉིས་སྣང་ཐམས་ཅད་དང་བྲལ་ཞིང༌།
རིག་བྱ་རིག་བྱེད་ཀྱི་རྣམ་པ་འཆར་རྒྱུ་མེད་ཀྱང་རང་ཉིད་རང་ཉིད་ཀྱི་རིག་བྱ་རིག་བྱེད་གཉིས་ཀ་ཡིན་པ་དེ་མི་འཐད་པར་ཐལ།
དཔེར་ན། རལ་གྲི་རང་ཉིད་ཀྱིས་རང་ཉིད་གཅོད་པར་མི་བྱེད། སོར་མོ་རང་ཉིད་ཀྱིས་རང་ཉིད་ཀྱི་རྩེ་མོ་ལ་རེག་པར་མི་བྱེད།
སྐྱེས་བུ་གཡེར་ཤིང་ལེགས་པར་བསླབས་པའི་ཡང་ཟོར་ཅན་དེས། རང་ཉིད་ཀྱིས་རང་ཉིད་ཀྱི་ཕྲག་པ་ལ་འགོམ་པར་མི་བྱེད་པ་ལྟ་བུ་ཡིན་པའི་ཕྱིར།
(Tendarwa:) It follows that it is incorrect that the self-knower that is the experiencer of the apprehender of blue, which is only inwardly directed and free from all dualistic appearances, lacks the dawning of the aspects of known and knower but is both its own known and knower because, for example, a sword does not function to cut itself, a finger does not function to touch its own tip, and a well-trained and skilled athlete cannot climb onto their own shoulders.
དེ་སྐད་དུ་ཡང༌། ལང་ཀར་གཤེགས་པ་ལས།
ཇི་ལྟར་རལ་གྲིས་རང་གི་སོ། །གཅོད་པར་མི་བྱེད་སོར་མོས་ནི། །རང་ལ་རེག་པར་མི་བྱེད་ལྟར། །རང་རིག་སེམས་ཀྱང་དེ་བཞིན་ནོ། ། ཞེས་གསུངས་པའི་ཕྱིར།
Similarly, the Lankavatara Sutra says: Just like a sword does not function to cut its blade and the finger does not touch itself, it is similar also for self-knowers and the mind.
