Refutation of other-production (Gomde Uma)

གལ་ཏེ་རང་གི་ངོ་བོས་གྲུབ་པའི་རྒྱུ་གཞན་ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་རང་གི་ངོ་བོས་གྱུབ་པའི་འབྲས་བུ་གཞན་ཞིག་འབྱུང་བར་འགྱུར་ན་ནི།
If a result that is established by its own-entity arises in dependence upon a separate cause that is established by its own-entity:

1. Flinging that results are produced even when discordant conditions are already established
   འགལ་རྐྱེན་གྲུབ་ཟིན་པའི་ཚེ་ནའང་འབྲས་བུ་སྐྱེ་བར་འཕེན་པ།
2. Flinging that results are produced even when concordant conditions are incomplete
   མཐུན་རྐྱེན་མ་ཚང་བའི་ཚེ་ནའང་འབྲས་བུ་སྐྱེ་བར་འཕེན་པ།

འོ་ན། ཤེས་བྱ་ཆོས་ཅན། ས་ལུའི་ས་བོན་ལས་ས་ལུའི་མྱུ་གུ་འབྱུང་བ་བཞིན་དུ།
གསལ་བྱེད་མེ་ལྕེ་རབ་ཏུ་འབར་བ་ལས་ཀྱང་བསལ་བྱ་མུན་པ་འཐུག་པོ་འབྱུང་བར་འགྱུར་པར་ཐལ།
ས་མྱུག་གཉིས་དང་མེ་ལྕེ་དང་མུན་པ་རྣམས་རང་གི་ངོ་བོས་གྲུབ་པའི་གཞན་ཡིན་པར་མཚུངས་པའི་ཕྱིར།
(1) The subject - objects of knowledge - it follows that just like a rice sprout arises from a rice seed, thick darkness (that to be dispelled) would arise also from blazing flames (the dispeller) because the seed and sprout and the flames and darkness are equally established by their own-entity other.

གཞན་ཡང་། ས་ལུའི་ས་བོན་ལས་ས་ལུའི་མྱུ་གུ་འབྱུང་བ་བཞིན་དུ། ནས་ཀྱི་ས་བོན་སོགས་ཐམས་ཅད་ལས་ཀྱང་ས་ལུའི་མྱུ་གུ་སོགས་ཐམས་ཅད་སྐྱེ་བར་འགྱུར་བར་ཐལ། རྒྱུ་མཚན་གང་གི་ཕྱིར་ན་སྐྱེ་བར་བྱེད་པ་དང་། སྐྱེ་བར་བྱ་བ་མ་ཡིན་པ་ནས་ཀྱི་ས་བོན་དང་ས་ལུའི་མྱུ་གུ་སོགས་རྒྱུ་འབྲས་ཀྱི་ཆོས་མ་ལུས་པ་ལ་ཡང་
རང་གི་ངོ་བོས་གྲུབ་པའི་གཞན་ཉིད་ཡོད་པར་མཚུངས་པའི་ཕྱིར།
(2) Moreover, it follows that just like a rice sprout arises from a rice seed, everything (rice sprouts, etc.) would be produced from everything (barley sprouts, etc.) because all phenomena that are causes and effects, even those that are not producer and produced (barley seeds and rice sprouts, and so forth) are equally just established by their own-entity other.

གཞན་སྐྱེ་ལ་ཧ་ཅང་ཐལ་བ་དེ་ལྟ་བུ་འཇུག་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་གང་ཞེ་ན། ས་མྱུག་གཉིས་ལྟ་བུ་རང་གི་མཚན་ཉིད་ཀྱིས་གྲུབ་པའི་གཞན་ཡིན་ན།
ཚུགས་ཐུབ་གྱི་གཞན་ཡིན་དགོས། དེ་ཡིན་ན་ཕན་ཚུན་ལྟོས་མེད་དུ་འགྱུར་དགོས་ལ།
དེ་ལ་མི་ལྟོས་བཞིན་དུ་དེ་ལས་སྐྱེ་ན་མེ་ལྕེ་ལས་མུན་པ་སོགས་ཀྱང་སྐྱེ་དགོས་པར་ཐལ་བ་འཕེན་པའོ།
Flinging these consequences applies because: If the seed and sprout, for example, are established by way of own-character other, then they are necessarily self-supporting other; if they are that, then they would necessarily be mutually unrelated. If that is produced from that while not being related with that, then also darkness and so forth would necessarily be produced from flames.

These two consequences are correct consequences conveying a proof (see Correct consequence):

1. The subject - objects of knowledge - production from other does not exist because thick darkness does not arise from blazing flames. ཤེས་བྱ་ཆོས་ཅན། གཞན་སྐྱེ་མེད་དེ། མེ་ལྕེ་རབ་ཏུ་འབར་བ་ལས་མུན་པ་འཐུག་པོ་མ་འབྱུང་བའི་ཕྱིར།
2. The subject - objects of knowledge - production from other does not exist because all is not produced from all. ཤེས་བྱ་ཆོས་ཅན། གཞན་སྐྱེ་མེད་དེ། ཐམས་ཅད་ལས་ཐམས་ཅད་མ་སྐྱེ་བའི་ཕྱིར།

Whereas those for self-production are correct consequences not conveying a proof.

Objection [by Proponents of Things]: No such fault because: སྐྱོན་མེད་དེ།

• Although they are established by way of own-character other: རང་གི་མཚན་ཉིད་ཀྱིས་གྲུབ་པའི་གཞན་ཡིན་ནའང་།
  • Just the thing that a cause is able to assist is definitively described as being the result of that cause; and རྒྱུ་དེས་ཕན་པ་རབ་ཏུ་བྱ་བར་ནུས་པའི་དངོས་པོ་དེ་ཉིད་ནི་རྒྱུ་དེའི་འབྲས་བུ་ཡིན་པར་ངེས་པར་བརྗོད་ཅིང་།
  • The result that a cause is able to produce is the cause of that result.
    རྒྱུ་གང་ཞིག་གིས་འབྲས་བུ་དེ་སྐྱེད་པར་ནུས་པ་དེ་ནི་འབྲས་བུ་དེའི་རྒྱུ་ཡིན་ལ།
• Therefore, causes and their effects are specific and definite. དེའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་གྱིས་རྒྱུ་འབྲས་སོ་སོར་ངེས་པའི་ཕྱིར་དང་།

And because:

• The rice sprout is produced from its previous similar-type that is included in the same continuum and that is its producer; whereas
  ས་ལུའི་མྱུ་གུ་དེ་རང་དང་རྒྱུད་གཅིག་ཏུ་གཏོགས་པ་དང་། རང་སྐྱེ་བར་བྱེད་པའི་རང་གི་རིགས་འདྲ་སྔ་མ་སོགས་ལས་སྐྱེ་བ་ཡིན་ལ།
• The seeds of others are not the rice sprout's previous similar-type that is of the same continuum and its producer. གཞན་གྱི་ས་བོན་ནི། ས་ལུའི་མྱུ་གུ་དང་རྒྱུད་གཅིག་པ་དང་། དེ་སྐྱེ་བྱེད་ཀྱི་དེའི་རིགས་འདྲ་སྔ་མ་སོགས་མ་ཡིན་པ་དེའི་ཕྱིར་ཞེ་ན།

Expressed by v6.15 as:

• In general, if it is the cause of that phenomenon, then it is necessarily that able to produce it and if it is the result of that, then it is necessarily that produced by that.
  སྤྱིར་ཆོས་དེའི་རྒྱུ་ཡིན་ན་ཆོས་དེ་སྐྱེ་ནུས་དང་། དེའེ་འབྲས་བུ་ཡིན་ན་དེའི་སྐྱེ་བྱ་ཡིན་དགོས།
• In particular, if it is the substantial cause of that, then it is necessarily that which is previously arisen in the same continuum as that. ཁྱད་པར་དེའི་ཉེར་ལེན་ཡིན་ན། དེ་དང་རྒྱུད་གཅིག་པའི་དེའི་སྔར་བྱུང་ཡིན་དགོས།
• Since a rice sprout and barley seed are not that helped and helper, they are not suitable to be cause and effect. ས་ལུའི་མྱུ་གུ་དང་ནས་ཀྱི་ས་བོན་གཉིས་ཕན་བྱ་ཕན་བྱེད་མ་ཡིན་པས་རྒྱུ་འབྲས་སུ་མི་རུང་ཞིང་།
• In particular, since they are not of the same continuum, they are not suitable to be substantial cause and effect. ཁྱད་པར་རྒྱུད་མི་གཅིག་པས་ཉེར་ལེན་རྒྱུ་འབྲས་སུ་མི་རུང་།

ས་ལུའི་ས་བོན་ཡང་ནི་ཆོས་ཅན། ས་ལུའི་མྱུ་གུ་དེའི་སྐྱེ་བྱེད་དང་། དེ་སྐྱེད་པའི་ནུས་ལྡན་དང་། དེ་དང་རྒྱུད་གཅིག་པ་དང་།
དེའི་རིགས་འདྲ་སྔ་མ་དང་བཞི་པོ་གང་ཡང་མ་ཡིན་པར་ཐལ། དེ་དང་རང་བཞིན་གྱིས་གྲུབ་པའིེ་གཞན་ཉིད་ཡིན་པའི་ཕྱིར།
Reply: The subject - a rice seed - it follows that it is not any of the four 1) the producer of the rice sprout, 2) that possessing the ability to produce it, 3) its same continuum, or 4) its previous similar-type because it is inherently established other than that.

ཇི་ལྟར་ཏེ་དཔེར་ན། ནས་དང་པདྨའི་གེ་སར་དང་ནི་ཀེང་ཤུ་ཀའི་མེ་ཏོག་ལ་སོགས་པ་རྣམས་ས་ལུའི་མྱུ་གུ་དང་འབྲེལ་མེད་དོན་གཞན་ཡིན་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་གྱིས་
དེ་རྣམས་ས་ལུའི་མྱུ་གུ་སྐྱེད་པར་བྱེད་པ་འདོད་པ་མ་ཡིན་ཞིང་། དེ་སྐྱེད་པའི་ནུས་ལྡན་མ་ཡིན་པ་དང་། དེ་དང་རྒྱུད་གཅིག་པའི་ཁོངས་སུ་གཏོགས་པ་མ་ཡིན་པ་དང་།
དེའི་རིགས་འདྲ་སྔ་མ་མ་ཡིན་པར་ཁྱོད་འདོད་པ་དེ་ཁོ་ན་བཞིན་ནོ།
How so? For example, due to barley, lotus blossom, kingshuka flowers, and so forth being unrelated different objects with rice sprouts, they are not asserted to be the producers of rice sprouts, nor that possessing the ability to produce it, nor that included within the same continuum as that, nor its previous similar-type.
