The self would be annihilated upon nirvana without remainder

གཞན་ཡང་། ལྷག་མེད་མྱ་ངན་ལས་འདས་པའི་ཚེ་ངེས་པར་རྒྱུན་ཆད་པར་འགྱུར་བ་ཐལ།
དེའི་ཚེ་ཕུང་པོ་རྒྱུན་ཆད་པ་གང་ཞིག བདག་ཕུང་གཅིག་ཡིན་པའི་ཕྱིར། དང་པོ་ཁས་བླངས།
Moreover, it follows that when attaining nirvana without remainder, the continuum [of the self] would necessarily be severed because 1) at that time the continuum of the aggregates is severed and 2) the self and aggregates are one. You assert the first reason.

Note: Vaibhashika say that upon attaining nirvana without remainder the continuum of the self exists because otherwise nirvana without remainder would not exist. However, that continuum is not the self because it would have to either be an imputed-existent or a substantial-existent. It cannot be an imputed-existent since there is no basis (the aggregates) upon which it can be designated and it cannot be a substantial-existent since then they would be asserting a self-sufficient substantially existent self. Therefore, they say the continuum exists but it is not the self.

འདོད་ན། མང་བཀུར་ཆོས་ཅན། ཁྱོད་ཆད་པའི་མཐར་ལྟ་ཅན་དུ་ཐལ། དེའི་ཚེ་བདག་ཡོད་པ་གང་ཞིག ཁྱོད་ཀྱིས་དེའི་ཚེ་བདག་རྒྱུན་ཆད་པར་འཛིན་པའི་ཕྱིར།
འཇིག་ལྟས་གང་དུ་བཟུང་བའི་ཡུལ་ཉིད་རྟག་ཆད་དུ་འཛིན་པ་མཐར་ལྟ་གཉིས་ཁྱོད་ཀྱིས་ཁས་བླངས་པའི་ཕྱིར།
If accepted: The subject - Sammitīyā - it follows that you possess the view holding to the extreme of annihilation because 1) the self exists at that time and 2) you apprehend that the continuum of the self is severed at that time; because you assert that apprehending the object apprehended by the view of the transitory collection as permanent or annihilated are the views holding to extremes.

ཁ་ཅིག དངོས་སྨྲ་བས་ལྷག་མེད་མྱང་འདས་ཀྱི་ཚེ་བདག་རྒྱུན་ཆད་པར་ཁས་ལེན་ཟེར་ན།
Someone says: The Proponents of Things assert that the continuum of the self is severed upon nirvana without remainder.

འོ་ན། དེའི་ཚེ་དེ་རྒྱུན་ཆད་པར་ཐལ། ཕུང་པོ་ལྔ་བདག་གང་ཞིག །དེའི་ཚེ་ཕུང་པོ་ལྔའི་རྒྱུན་ཆད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
ཞེས་པའི་ཐལ་འགྱུར་དེ་དངོས་སྨྲ་བ་ལ་གནོད་བྱེད་ཀྱི་ཐལ་འགྱུར་མ་ཡིན་པར་ཐལ། དེས་དེ་འདྲའི་ཐལ་འགྱུར་ལ་འདོད་ལན་དོན་འཐུན་ཐེབས་པའི་ཕྱིར་ཏེ།
དེས་ལྷག་མེད་མྱང་འདས་ཀྱི་ཚེ་བདག་རྒྱུན་ཆད་པར་ཁས་ལེན་པའི་ཕྱིར།
Jetsunpa: In that case, it follows that the consequence "It follows that its continuum is severed at that time because 1) the five aggregates are the self and 2) the continuum of the five aggregates is severed at that time." is not a consequence that undermines the Proponents of Things because they have a factually concordant response to such a consequence; because they assert that the continuum of the self is severed upon nirvana without remainder.
