Abider in Foe-Destroyer

འབྲས་གནས་བཞིའི་ནང་ཚན་གང་ཞིག །གོང་མའི་ཆ་མཐུན་ལྔ་སྤངས་པས་རབ་ཏུ་ཕྱེ་བའི་རིགས་སུ་གནས་པའི་དགེ་སྦྱོང་ཚུལ་གྱི་འབྲས་བུ་ལ་གནས་པ།
དགྲ་བཅོམ་འབྲས་གནས་ཀྱི་མཚན་ཉིད།
Definition: Someone who is:

1. A subdivision of the four Abiders and
2. Abiding in the result of the Way of the Śramaṇa that abides in the class distinguished by having abandoned the five partial concordances with the upper.

Division by way of the mode of abandoning the objects of abandonment: སྤང་བྱ་སྤོང་ཚུལ་གྱི་སྒོ་ནས།

1. Simultaneous Abandoner Abiders in Foe-Destroyer སྤང་བྱ་ཅིག་ཅར་པའི་དགྲ་བཅོམ་འབྲས་གནས།
2. Serialist Abiders in Foe-Destroyer སྤང་བྱ་རིམ་གྱིས་པའི་དགྲ་བཅོམ་འབྲས་གནས།

ས་མཚམས། ཟད་མི་སྐྱེ་ཤེས་པའི་ཡེ་ཤེས་ཐོབ་པ་ནས་ཐེག་ཆེན་ལམ་དུ་འཇུག་ཁ་མའི་སྔ་རོལ་གྱི་བར་དུ་ཡོད་དོ།
Boundaries: exist from attaining the exalted wisdom of knowing exhaustion and non-arising and up to the moment just prior to entering the Mahayana path.

ཉོན་མོངས་པའི་དགྲ་བཅོམ་པས་ན་དེ་ལྟར་བརྗོད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
Etymology: due to destroying the foes that are the afflictions.

Division by way of faculty: དབང་པོའི་སྒོ་ནས།

1. Possessing the quality of degeneration ཡོངས་སུ་ཉམས་པའི་ཆོས་ཅན།
   Dull faculty Foe-Destroyers who will degenerate from the quality of happily abiding in the present life regardless of what they do
   ཇི་ལྟར་བྱས་ཀྱང་ཚེ་དེ་ལ་མཐོང་ཆོས་ལ་བདེར་གནས་ཀྱི་ཡོན་ཏན་ལས་ཉམས་པར་འགྱུར་བའི་དགྲ་བཅོམ་པ་དབང་རྟུལ་གཅིག་ལ་བྱེད།
2. Possessing the quality of killing the self བདག་གསོད་པའི་ཆོས་ཅན།
   Dull faculty Foe-Destroyers who immediately give up their life, fearing they will degenerate from the quality of happily abiding in the present life if they do not immediately give up their life. དེ་མ་ཐག་ཏུ་སྐུ་ཚེའི་
   འདུ་བྱེད་མ་བཏང་ན་མཐོང་ཆོས་ལ་བདེར་གནས་ལས་ཉམས་ཀྱིས་དོགས་ནས། དེ་མ་ཐག་ཏུ་སྐུ་ཚེའི་འདུ་བྱེད་གཏོང་བའི་དགྲ་བཅོམ་དབང་རྟུལ་གཅིག་ལ་བྱེད།
3. Possessing the quality of subsequent protection རྗེས་སུ་བསྲུང་བའི་ཆོས་ཅན།
   Dull faculty Foe-Destroyers who protect their mind from the attributes of the Desire Realm, seeing that they will degenerate from that if they do not protect their mind from those
   འདོད་པའི་ཡོན་ཏན་ལ་སེམས་མ་བསྲུང་ན་དེ་ལས་ཉམས་པར་མཐོང་ནས་དེ་ལས་སེམས་བསྲུང་བའི་དགྲ་བཅོམ་དབང་རྟུལ་གཅིག་ལ་བྱེད།
4. Possessing the quality of unwavering from that state གནས་པ་ལས་མི་བསྐྱོད་པའི་ཆོས་ཅན།
   Dull faculty Foe-Destroyers who do not arise from meditative equipoise, seeing that they will degenerate from that if they arose from that
   མཉམ་གཞག་ལས་ལངས་ན་དེ་ལས་ཉམས་པར་མཐོང་ནས་དེ་ལས་མི་ལྡང་བའི་དགྲ་བཅོམ་དབང་རྟུལ་གཅིག་ལ་བྱེད།
5. Possessing the quality of being suitable for realisation རྟོགས་པར་འོས་པའི་ཆོས་ཅན།
   Dull faculty Foe-Destroyers who fear degenerating from that
   དེ་ལས་ཉམས་ཀྱིས་དོགས་པའི་འཇིགས་པ་དང་བཅས་པའི་དགྲ་བཅོམ་དབང་རྟུལ་གཅིག་ལ་བྱེད།
6. Possessing the quality of immovability མི་གཡོ་བའི་ཆོས་ཅན།
   Sharp faculty Foe-Destroyers who do not fear degenerating from that
   དེ་ལས་ཉམས་ཀྱིས་དོགས་པའི་འཇིགས་པ་མེད་པའི་དགྲ་བཅོམ་དབང་རྣོན་གཅིག་ལ་བྱེད།

དང་པོ་ལྔ་དབང་རྟུལ་དད་མོས་པ་དང་། དྲུག་པ་དབང་རྣོན་མཐོང་ཐོབ་པ་ཡིན།
The first five are the Faithful who are of dull faculty and the sixth are the attainers through seeing who are of sharp faculty.

དང་པོ་ལྔ་ལ་དུས་སྦྱོར་བའི་དགྲ་བཅོམ་ཞེས་བྱ་སྟེ། རྣམ་གྲོལ་མངོན་དུ་བྱེད་པ་འཚོ་བ་ལ་སོགས་པའི་དུས་དང་སྦྱོར་བས་ན་དེ་ལྟར་བརྗོད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
The first five are called “Foe-Destroyers linked to time”; they are called as such due to their actualisation of Nirvāṇa being linked to a time in their life and so forth.

ཕྱི་མ་ལ་དུས་མི་སྦྱོར་གྱི་དགྲ་བཅོམ་པ་ཞེས་བྱ་སྟེ། རྣམ་གྲོལ་མངོན་དུ་བྱེད་པ་འཚོ་བ་ལ་སོགས་པའི་དུས་ལ་མི་ལྟོས་པར་མངོན་དུ་བྱེད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
The latter are called “Foe-Destroyers not linked to time” because their actualisation of complete liberation is not linked to a time in their life and so forth.

བྱེ་བྲག་སྨྲ་བ་རྣམས་ནི། དང་པོ་ལྔ་རང་གི་རྟོགས་པ་ལས་ཉམས་ནས་རྒྱུན་ཞུགས་སོགས་སུ་འགྱུར་བར་སྲིད་པ་བཞེད་པ་མི་འཐད་དེ།
དགྲ་བཅོམ་པ་སྤངས་རྟོགས་ལས་ཉམས་པ་མེད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
Vaibhāṣikas assert that it is possible for the first five to degenerate from their realisation and become Stream-Enterers and so forth.This is incorrect because there is no degeneration from the realisation and abandonment of a Foe-Destroyer.

རང་ལུགས་ནི། མདོ་སྡེ་པས་འདོད་པ་ལྟར། མཐོང་ཆོས་ལ་བདེར་གནས་ཀྱི་ཡོན་ཏན་ལས་ཉམས་པར་འགྱུར་བ་ཙམ་ཡིན་ནོ།
The presentation of our own system is in accordance with the assertions of Sautrāntikas; that they will merely degenerate from the quality of happily abiding in the present life.

Division by way of the mode of actualising qualities: ཡོན་ཏན་མངོན་དུ་བྱེད་ཚུལ་གྱི་སྒོ་ནས།

1. Hearer Foe-Destroyers who are completely liberated from the perspective of just wisdom
   ཤེས་རབ་རྐྱང་པའི་ཆ་ལས་རྣམ་པར་གྲོལ་བའི་ཉན་ཐོས་དགྲ་བཅོམ།
2. Hearer Foe-Destroyers who are completely liberated from the perspective of both
   གཉིས་ཀའི་ཆ་ལས་རྣམ་པར་གྲོལ་བའི་ཉན་ཐོས་དགྲ་བཅོམ།

འགོག་སྙོམས་མ་ཐོབ་པའི་ཉན་ཐོས་དགྲ་བཅོམ་ལྟ་བུ།
The first is a Hearer Foe-Destroyer who has not attained the absorption of cessation, for example.

འགོག་སྙོམས་རྒྱུད་ལྡན་གྱི་ཉན་ཐོས་དགྲ་བཅོམ་ལྟ་བུ་སྟེ།
The second is a Hearer Foe-Destroyer possessing the absorption of cessation in their continuum.
