Non-Returners proceeding to the Formless Realm

འདོད་པའི་རྟེ ན་ཅན་གྱི་ཕྱིར་མི་འོང་གང་ཞིག །ལས་ཉོན་གྱིས་གཟུགས་ཁམས་སུ་སྐྱེ་བ་མི་ལེན་པར་གཟུགས་མེད་དུ་སྐྱེ་བ་བླངས་ནས་
རྟེན་དེ་ལ་མྱང་འདས་མངོན་དུ་བྱེད་པའི་རིགས་ཅན། གཟུགས་མེད་ཉེར་འགྲོའི་ཕྱིར་མི་འོང་གི་མཚན་ཉིད།
Definition: Someone who is:

A Non-Returner possessing a Desire Realm support and
In the class of taking rebirth in the Formless Realm and actualising Nirvāṇa on that support, without taking rebirth in the Form Realm due to karma and afflictions.

གཟུགས་མེད་ཉེར་འགྲོའི་ཕྱིར་མི་འོང་ཡིན་ན། གཟུགས་མེད་ཀྱི་རྟེན་དེ་ལ་མྱང་འདས་མངོན་དུ་བྱེད་པས་ཁྱབ་ཀྱང་། གཟུགས་སུ་ཉེར་འགྲོའི་ཕྱིར་མི་འོང་ལ་དེས་མ་ཁྱབ་བོ།
If it is a Non-Returner proceeding to the Formless Realm, they are pervaded by actualising Nirvāṇa on a Formless Realm support; whereas, Non-Returners proceeding to the Form Realm are not pervaded by that.

རིགས་ཅན་སྨོས་པ་ལ་དགོས་པ་ཡོད་དེ།
གཟུགས་མེད་ཉེར་འགྲོའི་ཕྱིར་མི་འོང་གི་རྟོགས་པ་སྔོན་དུ་སོང་བའི་ནམ་མཁའ་མཐའ་ཡས་ཀྱི་རྟེན་ཅན་གྱི་ཕྱིར་མི་འོང་དེ་དེ་ཡིན་པ་གཅད་པར་བྱ་བའི་ཆེད་ཡིན་པའི་ཕྱིར།
There is a purpose for saying “in the class”; it is in order to exclude Non-Returners possessing a Limitless Space support who are preceded by the realisation of Non-Returner proceeding to the Formless Realm from being that.

Divisions:

Those who pass beyond just upon rebirth སྐྱེས་ཙམ་ནས་འདའ་བ།
Those who pass beyond with application མངོན་པར་འདུ་བྱེད་དང་བཅས་ཏེ་འདའ་བ།
Those who pass beyond without application མངོན་པར་འདུ་བྱེད་མེད་པར་འདའ་བ།
Those who transfer to the Upper Realms གོང་འཕོ་བ།

Understand these via those proceeding to the Form Realm.

དེ་བར་འདའ་བ་མེད་དེ། གཟུགས་མེད་དུ་སྐྱེ་བ་ལ་བར་དོ་བརྒྱུད་མི་དགོས་པའི་ཕྱིར།
There are none who pass beyond in the intermediate-state because there is no need to pass through an intermediate-state to be born in the Formless Realm.

དེ་རྗེས་སུ་གཟུགས་མེད་ཁོ་ནར་ཕྱིན་ནས་མྱང་འདས་མངོན་དུ་བྱེད་པས་ན་གཟུགས་མེད་ཉེར་འགྲོའི་ཕྱིར་མི་འོང་།
Etymology: due to going only to the Formless Realm after that and actualising Nirvāṇa there.

Up a level: Non-Returners not completely transformed in the Desire Realm
