the three entanglements

The three entanglements: ཀུན་སྦྱོར་གསུམ་ཡོད་དེ།

1. The acquired view of the transitory collection འཇིག་ལྟ་ཀུན་བཏགས།
2. View holding [wrong] ethics and asceticism as supreme ཚུལ་ཁྲིམས་དང་བརྟུལ་ཞུགས་མཆོག་འཛིན།
3. Afflicted doubt ཐེ་ཚོམ་ཉོན་མོངས་ཅན་རྣམས་སུ་ཡོད་པའི་ཕྱིར།

These three are the main obstacles to attaining liberation: དེ་གསུམ་ཐར་པ་ཐོབ་པའི་བགེགས་ཀྱི་གཙོ་བོ་ཡིན།

There is way in which they hinder that because: དེ་གསུམ་གྱིས་དེ་ལ་གེགས་བྱེད་ཚུལ་ཡོད་དེ།

1. The first hinders it by way of inducing a fear of the extinction of the self
   དང་པོ་དེས་བདག་ཆད་ཀྱིས་དོགས་པའི་འཇིགས་པས་དྲངས་པའི་སྒོ་ནས་དེ་ལ་གེགས་བྱེད།
2. The second hinders it by way of leading down a wrong path གཉིས་པས་ལམ་ནོར་བར་འཁྲིད་པའི་སྒོ་ནས་དེ་ལ་གེགས་བྱེད།
3. The third hinders attaining liberation by way of generating doubt despite having found the correct path
   གསུམ་པས་ལམ་རྣམ་དག་རྙེད་ཀྱང་དེ་ལ་ཐེ་ཚོམ་བསྐྱེད་པའི་སྒོ་ནས་ཐར་པ་ཐོབ་པ་ལ་གེགས་བྱེད་པའི་ཕྱིར།

མཛོད་ལས། འགྲོ་མི་འདོད་དང་ལམ་ནོར་དང་། །ལམ་ལ་ཐེ་ཚོམ་ཇི་སྙེད་གཅིག །ཐར་པར་བགྲོད་ལ་གེགས་བྱེད་པ། །དེ་ཡི་ཕྱིར་ན་གསུམ་བསྟན་ཏོ།
Abhidharmakosha:
Not wishing to go, the wrong path, and
Doubting the path; these
Act to hinder progress toward liberation;
Therefore, three are indicated.    [v5.44]
