Pure meditative absorptions

ཁམས་གོང་གི་དངོས་གཞི་སྙོམས་འཇུག་གང་ཞིག འཇིག་རྟེན་པའི་དགེ་བར་དམིགས་པ། གོང་སའི་དངོས་གཞི་སྙོམས་འཇུག་དག་པ་བའི་མཚན་ཉིད།
Definition: That observed to be:

1. An actual meditative absorption of an upper realm and
2. A mundane virtue.

དབྱེ་ན། བསམ་གཏན་དང་པོ་ནས་སྲིད་རྩེའི་བར་བརྒྱད་ཡོད།
Divisions: eight from the first concentration to the peak of existence.

The first seven each have four: དང་པོ་བདུན་པོ་དེ་རེ་རེ་ལ་བཞི་ཡོད་དེ།

1. Concordant with degeneration ཉམས་པ་ཆ་མཐུན།
2. Concordant with abiding གནས་པ་ཆ་མཐུན།
3. Concordant with distinction ཁྱད་པར་ཆ་མཐུན།
4. Concordant with definite discrimination ངེས་འབྱེད་ཆ་མཐུན།

སྲིད་རྩེ་ལ་ཁྱད་པར་ཆ་མཐུན་མེད་དེ། སྲིད་རྩེ་ལ་གོང་ས་མེད་པའི་ཕྱིར། གཞན་གསུམ་ཡོད།
The Peak of Existence does not have that concordant with distinction because it does not have a higher level; it possesses the other three.

གོང་སའི་དངོས་གཞི་སྙོམས་འཇུག་དག་པ་བ་གང་ཞིག
རང་གི་མཇུག་ཐོགས་སུ་རང་སའི་ཉོན་མོངས་པ་དང་རང་གི་འོག་སའི་ཉོན་མོངས་གང་རུང་སྐྱེ་བ་དང་རྗེས་སུ་མཐུན་པ། དང་པོའི་མཚན་ཉིད།
Definition of the first: That which is:

1. An actual pure meditative absorption of an upper level and
2. Concordant with the production of afflictions of its own or a lower level immediately after it.

གོང་སའི་དངོས་གཞི་སྙོམས་འཇུག་དག་པ་བ་གང་ཞིག
རང་གི་མཇུག་ཐོགས་སུ་རང་སའི་དངོས་གཞི་སྙོམས་འཇུག་དག་པ་བ་གཞན་འདྲེན་པ་དེ། གཉིས་པའི་མཚན་ཉིད།
Definition of the second: That which:

1. Is an actual pure meditative absorption of an upper level and
2. Induces other actual pure meditative absorptions of its level immediately after it.

གོང་སའི་དངོས་གཞི་སྙོམས་འཇུག་དག་པ་བ་གང་ཞིག
རང་གི་འཇུག་ཐོགས་སུ་རང་གི་གོང་སའི་དངོས་གཞི་སྙོམས་འཇུག་དག་པ་བ་གཞན་འདྲེན་པ་དང་རྗེས་སུ་མཐུན་པ། གསུམ་པའི་མཚན་ཉིད།
Definition of the third: That which is:

1. An actual pure meditative absorption of an upper level and
2. Concordant with inducing other actual pure meditative absorptions of a higher level immediately after it.

གོང་སའི་དངོས་གཞི་སྙོམས་འཇུག་དག་པ་བ་གང་ཞིག
རང་གི་མཇུག་ཐོགས་སུ་ཟག་པ་མེད་པའི་ལམ་གཞན་འདྲེན་པ་དང་རྗེས་སུ་མཐུན་པ། བཞི་པའི་མཚན་ཉིད།
Definition of the fourth: That which is:

1. An actual pure meditative absorption of an upper level and
2. Concordant with inducing other uncontaminated paths immediately after it.

Up a level: The result attained (actual meditative absorption)
