Explanation of character-non-nature

དེ་ལ་ཆོས་རྣམས་ཀྱི་མཚན་ཉིད་ངོ་བོ་ཉིད་མེད་པ་ཉིད་གང་ཞེ་ན། ཀུན་བརྟགས་པའི་མཚན་ཉིད་གང་ཡིན་པའོ།
Regarding that, what is the character-non-nature of phenomena?
It is anything that is an imputational nature.

དེ་ཅིའི་ཕྱིར་ཞེ་ན། འདི་ལྟར་དེ་ནི་མིང་དང་བརྡས་རྣམ་པར་བཞག་པའི་མཚན་ཉིད་ཡིན་གྱི་རང་གི་མཚན་ཉིད་ཀྱིས་རྣམ་པར་གནས་པ་ནི་མ་ཡིན་པས་དེའི་ཕྱིར་
དེ་ནི་མཚན་ཉིད་ངོ་བོ་ཉིད་མེད་པ་ཉིད་ཅེས་བྱའོ།
Why?
It is like this: They are the natures posited by names and terms and do not abide by way of their own-character. Therefore, they are called “character-non-nature” (without character-nature).

གཟུགས་ཀྱི་ངོ་བོ་དང་ཁྱད་པར་དུ་ཀུན་བརྟགས་པའི་ཀུན་བརྟགས་ཆོས་ཅན། ཁྱོད་ལ་མཚན་ཉིད་ངོ་བོ་ཉིད་མེད་པ་ཞེས་བརྗོད་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་ཡོད་དེ། སྒྲུབ་ཕྱོགས་ནས་
མིང་བརྡས་རྣམ་པར་བཞག་པ་ཙམ་ཡིན་གྱི་དགག་ཕྱོགས་ནས་རང་གི་མཚན་ཉིད་ཀྱིས་རྣམ་པར་གནས་པ་མ་ཡིན་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་གྱིས་དེ་ལྟར་བརྗོད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
The subject – imputational natures that are complete imputations of entity and attributes – there is a reason for referring to those as “character-non-natures” because:

• Positively-qualified: they are merely imputed by names and terminology; and
• Negatively-qualified: they do not abide by way of their own-character.
