Explanation of first established meaning

ལྔ་སྡེ་ལ་གསུངས་པའི་བདེན་བཞིའི་ཆོས་འཁོར་ཆོས་ཅན། ཁྱོད་གསུང་པ་པོའི་སྟོན་པ་དང་། དུས་དང་གནས་རྣམས་བཞག་ཏུ་ཡོད་དེ།
ཁྱོད་སྟོན་པ་ཤཱཀྱ་ཐུབ་པས་དུས་དང་པོར་ཝཱ་ར་ཎཱ་སཱིར་དྲང་སྲོང་སྨྲ་བ་རི་དྭགས་ཀྱི་ནགས་སུ་གསུངས་པའི་ཕྱིར།
The subject – the Dharma Wheel of the Four Truths taught to the five close disciples – it is possible to posit the teacher who spoke it, as well as the time and the place, because it was taught by the Teacher Śākyamuni during the initial period in the forest of Vārāṇasī at the Deer Park called “Sages Propounding.”

ཁྱོད་ཀྱི་ཆེད་དུ་བྱ་བའི་གདུལ་བྱ་ཡོད་དེ། ཉན་ཐོས་ཀྱི་རིགས་ཅན་བྱེ་བྲག་སྨྲ་བ་དང་མདོ་སྡེ་པ་རྣམས་ཁྱོད་ཀྱི་ཆེད་དུ་བྱ་བའི་གདུལ་བྱ་ཡིན་པའི་ཕྱིར།
Its intended disciples exist because the Hearer lineage-bearers, the Vaibhāṣikas and Sautrāntikas, are its intended disciples.

ཁྱོད་ཀྱི་བརྗོད་བྱ་ཡོད་དེ། འཕགས་པའི་བདེན་པ་བཞི་པོ་དེ་ཁྱོད་ཀྱི་བརྗོད་བྱ་ཡིན་པའི་ཕྱིར།
Its subject matter exists because the Aryas’ Four Truths are its subject matter.

ཁྱོད་ལ་བླ་ན་མཆིས་པ་ཞེས་བརྗོད་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་ཡོད་དེ། ཁྱོད་ཀྱི་གོང་ན་ངེས་དོན་གྱི་མདོ་གཞན་ཡོད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
There is a reason for referring to it as “surpassed” because there are other definitive meaning sutras that are higher than it.

ཁྱོད་ལ་སྐབས་མཆིས་པ་ཞེས་བརྗོད་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་ཡོད་དེ། ཁྱོ ད་ཀྱིས་སྒྲ་ཇི་བཞིན་པ་ལ་རྒོལ་བ་གཞན་གྱིས་ཀླན་ཀའི་སྐབས་མཆིས་པའི་ཕྱིར།
There is reason for saying it “affords an occasion” because there is opportunity for other disputants to refute its literal reading.

ཁྱོད་ལ་དྲང་བའི་དོན་ཞེས་བརྗོད་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་ཡོད་དེ། ཁྱོད་ཀྱི་དོན་གཞན་དུ་དྲང་དགོས་པའི་ཕྱིར།
There is reason for saying it “is of interpretative meaning” because its meaning needs to be interpreted differently.

ཁྱོད་ལ་རྩོད་པའི་གཞིའི་གནས་སུ་གྱུར་པ་ཞེས་བརྗོད་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་ཡོད་དེ།
ཁྱོད་ཀྱིས་མཚན་ཉིད་གསུམ་ལ་རང་གི་མཚན་ཉིད་ཀྱིས་ཡོད་མེད་གསལ་པོར་ཕྱེ་ནས་མ་བསྟན་པས་དོན་ལ་མི་མཐུན་པའི་རྩོད་པ་འབྱུང་བའི་ཕྱིར།
There is reason for saying it “serves as the basis of debate” because, since it did not indicate with a clear differentiation whether or not the three natures exist by way of their own-character, debates will arise that disagree about the meaning.
