Aspiring and Engaging Bodhicitta

སྨོན་འཇུག་གང་རུང་ཡང་ཡིན་སྤྱོད་པ་ཉམས་ལེན་གྱི་བྱ་བས་དངོས་སུ་མ་ཟིན་པ་ཡང་ཡིན་པའི་གཞི་མཐུན་པ། སྨོན་པ་སེམས་བསྐྱེད་ཀྱི་མཚན་ཉིད།
Definition of Aspiring Bodhicitta: That which is a common locus of 1) being either aspiring or engaging and 2) not being directly conjoined with the practices of the activities.
Boundaries: Path of accumulation - end of continuum.

དེ་གང་རུང་ཡང་ཡིན་སྤྱོད་པ་ཉམས་ལེན་གྱི་བྱ་བས་དངོས་སུ་ཟིན་པ་ཡང་ཡིན་པའི་གཞི་མཐུན་པ། འཇུག་པ་སེམས་བསྐྱེད་ཀྱི་མཚན་ཉིད།
Definition of Engaging Bodhicitta: That which is a common locus of 1) being either of those and 2) being directly conjoined with the practices of the activities.
Boundaries: Path of accumulation - Buddha ground.

ཁྱད་པར་ནི། དཔེར་ན། གྲོང་ཁྱེར་དེར་འགྲོ་བར་བྱའོ་སྙམ་པ་གཞིར་བྱས་ལ། གོམ་པ་བོར་བ་སོགས་ལུས་ཀྱི་འགྲོ་བའི་བྱ་བས་དངོས་སུ་ཟིན་མ་ཟིན་གཉིས་ཡོད་པ་ལྟར།
ཐེག་ཆེན་སེམས་བསྐྱེད་གཞིར་བྱས་ལ། སྤྱོད་པ་ཉམས་ལེན་གྱི་བྱ་བས་དངོས་སུ་ཟིན་མ་ཟིན་གཉིས་ཡོད་པ་ལ། སྔ་མ་འཇུག་སེམས་དང་ཕྱི་མ་སྨོན་སེམས་སུ་འཇོག
Difference: In terms of Mahayana mind generation, whether or not it is directly conjoined with the practice of the activities.
For example, in terms of the thought "I will go to that city," there are both occasions of being and not being directly conjoined with the physical activities of going, taking steps and so forth.

སྤྱོད་འཇུག་ལས།
བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་ནི་མདོར་བསྡུ་ན། །རྣམ་པ་གཉིས་སུ་ཤེས་བྱ་སྟེ། །བྱང་ཆུབ་སྨོན་པའི་སེམས་དང་ནི། །བྱང་ཆུབ་འཇུག་པ་ཉིད་ཡིན་ནོ།
འགྲོ་བར་འདོད་དང་འགྲོ་བ་ཡི། །བྱེ་བྲག་ཇི་ལྟར་ཤེས་པ་ལྟར། །དེ་བཞིན་མཁས་པས་འདི་གཉིས་ཀྱི། །བྱེ་བྲག་རིམ་བཞིན་ཤེས་པར་བྱ།
Śāntideva’s Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra says:
The mind of enlightenment, in short,
Should be known as of two types:
The mind wishing for enlightenment and
The mind actually engaging in enlightenment.
Just as one knows the instances
Of wishing to go and of going;
The wise should know the instances
Of these two respectively.
