Cittamatra
སེམས་ཙམ་པ་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་སེམས་ཅན་གྱི་རྒྱུད་ཀྱི་ཐོག་མ་མེད་པ་ནས་གཅིག་ནས་གཅིག་ཏུ་བརྒྱུད་དེ་འོང་བ།
ཆོས་ཉིད་ཀྱིས་ཐོབ་པ་ནང་གི་སྐྱེ་མཆེད་དེ་དྲུག་པ་ཡིད་ཀྱི་སྐྱེ་མཆེད་ཀྱི་སྟེང་གི་ཟག་མེད་ཀྱི་སེམས་ཀྱི་ས་བོན་ལ་རིགས་སུ་འདོད།
Cittamatrins assert lineage to be: A seed of an uncontaminated mind in the continuum of sentient beings, that:
- has come in a continuity from one life to the next since beginningless time,
- is naturally possessed, and
- is deposited upon the inner sources, i.e. the sixth that is the mental-source.
Divisions:
- Naturally abiding lineage: the above [seed] that has not been activated by hearing and so forth.
ཐོས་སོགས་ཀྱིས་གསོས་མ་བཏབ་པའི་གོང་དུ་རང་བཞིན་གནས་རིགས། - Developmental lineage: that on the occasion of having been activated by hearing and so forth.
ཐོས་སོགས་ཀྱིས་གསོས་བཏབ་པའི་ཚེ་རྒྱས་འགྱུར་གྱི་རིགས།
རང་བཞིན་གནས་རིགས་དང་རྒྱས་འགྱུར་གྱི་རིགས་གཉིས་མི་འགལ་ཏེ།
The naturally abiding lineage and developmental lineage are not mutually exclusive because:
- The potency of the seed of an uncontaminated mind in the continuum of sentient beings is the naturally abiding lineage; སེམས་ཅན་གྱི་རྒྱུད་ཀྱི་ཟག་མེད་སེམས་ཀྱི་ས་བོན་གྱི་ནུས་པ་དེ་རང་བཞིན་གནས་རིགས་ཡིན་ལ།
- When that has not been activated by hearing and so forth, it is only the naturally abiding lineage; and
དེ་ལ་ཐོས་སོགས་ཀྱིས་གསོས་མ་བཏབ་ན་རང་བཞིན་གནས་རིགས་ཁོ་ན་ཡིན་ལ། - When that has been activated by that, it is both of those. དེས་གསོས་བཏབ་པ་ན་དེ་གཉིས་ཀ་ཡིན་པའི་ཕྱིར།
If it is a sentient being, it is not pervaded by possessing lineage because there are four types of sentient beings who have severed lineage: སེམས་ཅན་ཡིན་ན་རིགས་རྒྱུད་ལྡན་གྱིས་མ་ཁྱབ་སྟེ། རིགས་ཆད་པའི་སེམས་ཅན་དེ་ལ་བཞིར་ཡོད་དེ།
- Some sentient beings engage exclusively in what is faulty སེམས་ཅན་ལ་ལ་ཉེས་པ་འབའ་ཞིག་སྤྱོད་པ།
- Some destroy white roots of virtue with anger ལ་ལ་ཁོང་ཁྲོས་དཀར་པོའི་དགེ་རྩ་བཅོམ་པ།
- In some’s continua there are no virtues concordant with liberation ལ་ལའི་རྒྱུད་ལ་ཐར་པ་ཆ་མཐུན་གྱི་དགེ་བ་མེད་པ།
- Some, despite having inferior white virtue in their continuum, do not possess the potency that is a seed of an uncontaminated mind in their continuum
ལ་ལའི་རྒྱུད་ལ་དཀར་པོའི་དགེ་བ་དམན་པ་ཡོད་ཀྱང་ཟག་མེད་སེམས་ཀྱི་ས་བོན་གྱི་ནུས་པ་རྒྱུད་ལ་མི་ལྡན་པ།
མདོ་སྡེ་རྒྱན་ལས། ལ་ལ་གཅིག་ཏུ་ཉེས་པར་སྤྱོད་ངེས་ཡོད། ལ་ལ་དཀར་པོའི་ཆོས་རྣམས་ཀུན་ཏུ་བཅོམ།
ལ་ལ་དཀར་པོའི་ཆ་མཐུན་དགེ་བ་མེད། དཀར་པོ་དམན་པ་ཡོད་པ་རྒྱུ་དང་བྲལ།
Ornament for Mahayana Sutras says:
Some are certain to only have faulty conduct,
Some have completely destroyed white dharmas,
Some lack virtue concordant with the white,
[Some] have inferior white, but lack the cause.
