Connection and order of applications
སྐབས་དང་པོ་གསུམ་དུ་མཁྱེན་གསུམ་གྱི་རྣམ་པ་ཤེས་ནས་བསྒོམ་པར་བྱ་བའི་མཁྱེན་གསུམ་གྱི་རྣམ་པ་དེ་ཉིད་སྦྱོར་བ་ཁྱད་པར་ཅན་གྱིས་ཟིན་དགོས་ཤིང༌།
དེ་ལ་ཡང་སྦྱོར་བ་དེ་ཤེས་དགོས་པས་མཁྱེན་གསུམ་གྱི་རྗེས་སུ་སྦྱོར་བཞི་འཆད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
The four applications are explained after the three exalted knowers because: Having understood the aspects of the three exalted knowers in the first three chapters, those very aspects of the three exalted knowers that are to be cultivated must be conjoined with special applications and for that it is necessary to understand those applications.
སྐབས་བདུན་པའི་བསྟན་བྱའི་གཙོ་བོར་གྱུར་པའི་མཁྱེན་གསུམ་གྱི་རྣམ་པ་ལ་བརྟན་པ་ཐོབ་པའི་སྐད་ཅིག་མའི་སྦྱོར་བ་ཐོབ་པ་ལ།
སྐབས་དྲུག་པའི་བསྟན་བྱའི་གཙོ་བོར་གྱུར་པའི་མཁྱེན་གསུམ་གྱི་རྣམ་པ་ལ་བརྟན་པ་ཐོབ་དོན་དུ་སྒོམ་པའི་མཐར་གྱིས་སྦྱོར་བ་ཐོབ་པ་སྔོན་དུ་འགྲོ་དགོས།
དེ་ལ་ཡང་སྐབས་ལྔ་པའི་བསྟན་བྱའི་གཙོ་བོར་གྱུར་པའི་མཁྱེན་གསུམ་གྱི་རྣམ་པ་ལ་དབང་ཐོབ་པའི་འབྲས་བུ་རྩེ་མོའི་སྦྱོར་བ་ཐོབ་པ་སྔོན་དུ་འགྲོ་དགོས།
དེ་ལ་ཡང་སྐབས་བཞི་པའི་བསྟན་བྱའི་གཙོ་བོར་གྱུར་པའི་མཁྱེན་གསུམ་གྱི་རྣམ་པ་ལ་དབང་ཐོབ་དོན་དུ་སྒོམ་པའི་རྒྱུ་རྣམ་རྫོགས་སྦྱོར་བ་ཐོབ་པ་སྔོན་དུ་འགྲོ་དགོས།
Order of the four applications:
- Attaining instantaneous application (the main indicated-object of the seventh chapter) that has attained stability wrt to the aspects of the three exalted knowers, is necessarily preceded by attaining serial application (the main indicated-object of the sixth chapter) which is cultivated in order to attain stability wrt to the aspects of the three exalted knowers;
- That is necessarily preceded by attaining peak application (the main indicated-object of the fifth chapter) which is the result of having attained mastery wrt to the aspects of the three exalted knowers; and
- That is necessarily preceded by attaining application in complete aspects (the main indicated-object of the fourth chapter) which is cultivated in order to attain mastery wrt to the aspects of the three exalted knowers
སྐབས་དང་པོ་གསུམ་དུ་མཁྱེན་གསུམ་གྱི་རྣམ་པ་སོ་སོར་བཤད། སྐབས་འདིར་མཁྱེན་གསུམ་གྱི་རྣམ་པ་བསྡུས་ནས་བསྟན་པས་སྟོན་ཚུལ་ལ་མི་འདྲ་བའི་
ཁྱད་པར་ཡོད་པའི་ཕྱིར་དང༌། སྐབས་དང་པོ་གསུམ་དུ་མཁྱེན་གསུམ་གྱི་ཐུན་མོང་མ་ཡིན་པའི་ངོ་བོ་ཤེས་པའི་སྒོ་ནས་བསྟན།
སྐབས་འདིར་ཞི་ལྷག་ཟུང་འབྲེལ་གྱི་སྦྱོར་བས་སྒོམ་པའི་དབང་དུ་བྱས་ནས་བསྟན་པས་དགོས་པ་མི་འདྲ་བའི་ཁྱད་པར་ཡོད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
འདིར་མི་མཐུན་ཕྱོགས་མ་ལུས་པ་སྤང་པའི་ཆེད་དུ་རྣམ་པ་མ་ལུས་པ་བསྒོམ་པ་བསྟན་ནས།
དང་པོ་གསུམ་དུ་མི་མཐུན་ཕྱོགས་ཅི་རིགས་པ་དང་བྲལ་བའི་མཁྱེན་གསུམ་བསྟན་པ།
Differences from first three chapters:
- Different way of indicating:
- In the first three chapters the aspects of the three exalted knowers are explained individually
- Here they are indicated collectively
- Different purposes:
- In the first three chapters they were explained by way of understanding the uncommon natures of the three exalted knowers
- Here they are indicated in terms of they cultivation by means of applications that are a union of calm abiding and special insight
- Gyaltsab adds:
- Here cultivation of all aspects without exception in order to abandon the discordant class without exception is indicated
- In the first three chapters, the three exalted knowers that are devoid of their respective discordant class are indicated.
Up a level: Perfection of Wisdom
