Knower of paths knowing the paths of Solitary Realisers

ཁྱད་ཆོས་གསུམ་གྱིས་ཟིན་པའི་སྒོ་ནས་གདུལ་བྱ་རང་རྒྱལ་གྱི་རིགས་ཅན་རྗེས་སུ་གཟུང་བའི་ཕྱིར་དུ་ཤེས་པར་བྱ་བའི་མངོན་རྟོགས་ཀྱི་རིགས་སུ་གནས་པའི་
ཐེག་ཆེན་འཕགས་པའི་མཁྱེན་པ། རང་རྒྱལ་གྱི་ལམ་ཤེས་པའི་ལམ་ཤེས་ཀྱི་མཚན་ཉིད།
Definition: A Mahayana Arya’s exalted knower abiding in the class of clear realisations that are to be known in order to take care of Solitary Realiser lineage-bearer disciples, by way of being conjoined with the three attributes.

Division:

1. That in the continuum of an Arya Bodhisattva བྱང་སེམས་འཕགས་པའི་རྒྱུད་ཀྱི་དེ།
2. That in the continuum of an Arya Buddha སངས་རྒྱས་འཕགས་པའི་རྒྱུད་ཀྱི་དེ།

ཐེག་ཆེན་མཐོང་ལམ་ནས་སངས་རྒྱས་ཀྱི་སའི་བར་དུ་ཡོད།
Boundaries: From the Mahayana path of seeing and up to the Buddha-ground.

བྱང་སེམས་འཕགས་པ་ཆོས་ཅན། ཁྱོད་ཀྱིས་རང་རྒྱལ་གྱི་ལམ་ཤེས་པར་བྱེད་པའི་ཚུལ་ཡོད་དེ།
ཁྱོད་ཀྱིས་དེ་སེམས་བསྐྱེད་བསྔོ་བ་སྟོང་ཉིད་རྟོགས་པའི་ཤེས་རབ་གསུམ་གྱིས་ཟིན་པའི་སྒོ་ནས་ཤེས་པར་བྱེད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
The subject - an Arya Bodhisattva - there is a way in which they know the paths of Solitary Realisers because they know those by way of being conjoined with the three: mind generation, dedications, and the wisdom realising emptiness.

Difference between Hearers and Solitary Realisers

Rhinoceros-like and Communal Solitary Realisers

བསེ་རུ་ལྟ་བུའི་རང་རྒྱལ་གྱི་སྒོམ་ལམ་ཆོས་ཅན། ཁྱད་ཆོས་གསུམ་དང་ལྡན་ཏེ།
The subject - the Rhinoceros-like Solitary Realiser path of meditation - it possesses three distinguishing features due to possessing:

1. The ability to completely abandon conceptions apprehending forms as external;
   གཟུགས་ཕྱི་རོལ་དོན་དུ་འཛིན་པའི་རྟོག་པ་ཟད་པར་སྤོང་ནུས།
2. The inability to abandon true-grasping apprehending consciousnesses of their paths as truly existent; and རང་ལམ་དུ་ཤེས་པ་ལ་བདེན་པར་འཛིན་པའི་བདེན་འཛིན་སྤང་མི་ནུས།
3. The three attributes relating to the Solitary Realiser lineage.
   རང་རྒྱལ་གྱི་རིགས་ལ་བརྟེན་པའི་ཁྱད་པར་གསུམ་དང་ལྡན་པའི་ཕྱིར།

གཟུང་འཛིན་རྫས་གཞན་གྱིས་སྟོང་པའི་སྟོང་ཉིད་དེ་རང་སངས་རྒྱས་ཀྱི་ཤེས་པ་ལ་ལྟོས་ཏེ་ཟབ་པ་མ་ཡིན་ཕྲ་བ་མ་ཡིན་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་གྱིས་
རང་རྒྱལ་འཕགས་པ་ལ་གཟུང་འཛིན་རྫས་གཞན་དུ་འཛིན་པའི་རྟོག་པ་སྤངས་པའི་སྤངས་པ་ཡོད་པར་བསྟན།
Solitary Realiser Arhats are indicated as having abandoned conceptions apprehending apprehendeds and apprehenders as different substances because: the emptiness of apprehendeds and apprehenders being different substances not being profound and not being subtle relative to the Solitary Realisers' consciousness.

སྒྱུ་མ་མཁན་གྱིས་རྡེའུ་ཤིང་རྟ་གླང་དུ་མ་གྲུབ་པར་མངོན་སུམ་དུ་རྟོགས་ཀྱང༌། དེ་ལྟར་སྣང་བའི་ཤེས་པ་བདེན་མེད་དུ་མ་རྟོགས་པ་བཞིན་དུ་
རང་རྒྱལ་འཕགས་པས་གཟུགས་ཕྱི་རོལ་དོན་གྱིས་སྟོང་པར་མངོན་སུམ་དུ་རྟོགས་ཀྱང༌།
དེའི་ཕྱི་རོལ་དོན་སྣང་གི་ཤེས་པ་བདེན་མེད་དུ་མ་རྟོགས་པས་ཤེས་པ་ལ་བདེན་པར་འཛིན་པའི་བདེན་འཛིན་མ་སྤངས་པར་བསྟན།
Solitary Realiser Arhats are indicated as not having abandoned the true-grasping apprehending consciousness as truly existent because: despite directly realising forms as empty of being external objects, they do not realise that the consciousnesses to which those external objects appear lack true existence.
Just like a magician does not realise that the consciousness to which sticks and stones appear as horses and elephants lacks true existence, despite directly realising they are not established as such.

Difference in lineage (Rhinoceros-like Solitary Realisers):

1. Disliking busyness and liking solitude, due to lesser afflictions;
   ཉོན་མོངས་ཤས་ཆུང་བས་འདུ་འཛི་ལ་མི་དགའ་བར་རང་ཉིད་གཅིག་པུ་ལ་དགའ་བ་དང༌།
2. Abiding in few mental activities and not engaging in the vast welfare of others, due to lesser compassion in comparison with bodhisattvas; and
   བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་དཔའ་ལ་བལྟོས་ཏེ་སྙིང་རྗེ་ཆུང་བས་གཞན་དོན་རྒྱ་ཆེན་པོ་ལ་མི་འཇུག་པར་སེམས་ལས་ཆུང་ངུར་གནས་པ་དང༌།
3. Being of middling faculty and possessing proud conduct: actualising their enlightenment without depending on another teacher.
   དབང་པོ་འབྲིང་དུ་གྱུར་ཅིང་ང་རྒྱལ་སྤྱོད་པ་ཅན་ཏེ་སློབ་དཔོན་གཞན་ལ་ལྟོས་མེད་དུ་རང་གི་བྱང་ཆུབ་མངོན་དུ་བྱེད་པ།

རང་རྒྱལ་གྱི་ལམ་ཤེས་པའི་ལམ་ཤེས་ཀྱི་རྒྱུ་ངེས་འབྱེད་ཆ་མཐུན་ཆོས་ཅན། ཁྱོད་ལ་དུ་མར་ཡོད་དེ།
ཁྱོད་ལ་རང་རྒྱལ་གྱི་རྟོགས་རིགས་སུ་གནས་པའི་ཐེག་ཆེན་གྱི་སྦྱོར་ལམ་དྲོད་སོགས་བཞི་ཡོད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
The subject - the partial concordance with definite discrimination that is the cause for a Knower of Paths knowing the paths of Solitary Realisers - there are many because there are the four Mahayana paths of preparation (heat and so forth) abiding in the Solitary Realiser class of realisation.

དེས་ན་རང་རྒྱལ་གྱི་རྟོགས་རིགས་སུ་གནས་པའི་ཐེག་ཆེན་གྱི་དོན་མངོན་རྟོགས་དེ། རང་རྒྱལ་གྱི་ལམ་ཤེས་པའི་ལམ་ཤེས་ཀྱི་རྒྱུ་ངེས་འབྱེད་ཆ་མཐུན་གྱི་མཚན་ཉིད།
Therefore, the definition of the cause of a Knower of Paths knowing the paths of Solitary Realisers (the partial concordance with definite discrimination) is:
A Mahayana clear realisation of meaning abiding in the Solitary Realiser class of realisations.

Divisions:

1. Heat: that known through the aspect of not discarding that imputed by name and indicated as non-contradictory with dharmata མིང་དུ་བཏགས་པ་ཡང་མི་འདོར་ལ་ཆོས་ཉིད་དང་མི་འགལ་བར་སྟོན་པའི་རྣམ་པས་ཤེས་པར་བྱ་བའི་དྲོད་དང༌།
2. Peak: that realised through the aspect distinguishing through the differentiations into forms and so forth being without obscuration and so forth
   གཟུགས་སོགས་ལ་འགྲིབ་པ་མེད་པ་ལ་སོགས་པས་ཕྱེ་བ་དེས་ཁྱད་པར་དུ་བྱས་པའི་རྣམ་པས་རྟོགས་པར་བྱ་བ་རྩེ་མོ་དང༌།
3. Forbearance: that realised through the aspect of complete non-grasping due to forms and so forth being [empty of by way of the sixteen emptinesses], from inner emptiness and up to the emptiness of inherent existence of non-things. གཟུགས་སོགས་ནང་སྟོང་པ་ཉིད་ནས་དངོས་པོ་མེད་པའི་ངོ་བོ་ཉིད་སྟོང་པ་ཉིད་ཀྱི་བར་ཡིན་པས་
   ཡོངས་སུ་མི་འཛིན་པའི་རྣམ་པས་རྟོགས་པར་བྱ་བ་བཟོད་པ་དང༌།
4. Supreme Dharma: that realised through possessing the aspect of the non-production of forms and so forth གཟུགས་སོགས་སྐྱེ་བ་མེད་པ་སོགས་ཀྱི་རྣམ་པ་ཅན་གྱིས་རྟོགས་པར་བྱ་བ་ཆོས་མཆོག
