Marks and Signs (4-Bodies GM)
རང་གི་བདག་རྐྱེན་དུ་གྱུར་པའི་བསམ་གཏན་གྱི་དངོས་གཞིའི་སེམས་ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་རང་ཉིད་སྐྱེས་བུ་དམ་པར་མཚོན་པར་བྱེད་པའམ།
དེའི་ཐུགས་རྒྱུད་ཀྱི་ཡོན་ཏན་གཞན་དག་གིས་གོ་བྱེད་གང་རུང་དུ་གྱུར་པའི་རྣམ་དཀར་གྱི་ཡོན་ཏན་དེ། སངས་རྒྱས་ཀྱི་མཚན་དཔེའི་ཡོན་ཏན་གྱི་མཚན་ཉིད།
Definition: A completely white quality depending upon a mind of an actual concentration that is its empowering condition and that is either:
- The illustrator of oneself to be a holy being or
- What functions to make others understand the qualities in one's mental continuum.
སངས་རྒྱས་ཀྱི་མཚན་དཔེ་ནི། འཁོར་ལོས་སྒྱུར་རྒྱལ་གྱི་མཚན་དཔེ་སོགས་ལས་ཁྱད་པར་དུ་འཕགས་ཏེ། དེ་ནི་དག་པ། མཛེས་པ། གསལ་བ།
རྫོགས་པ་སོགས་ཀྱི་སྒོ་ནས་ཁྱད་པར་དུ་འཕགས་པ་ཡིན་པའི་ཕྱིར།
The Buddhas' marks and signs are superior to the marks and signs etc. of wheel-turning kings because of being superior by way of purity, beauty, clarity, completeness, and so forth.
དབུ་མ་རིན་ཆེན་ཕྲེང་བ་ལས།
འཁོར་ལོས་སྒྱུར་པ་ཐམས་ཅད་ལ། །འདི་དག་ཡོད་པར་འདོད་མོད་ཀྱི། །དག་དང་མཛེས་དང་གསལ་བ་ནི། །སངས་རྒྱས་རྣམས་ཀྱི་ཆར་མི་ཕོད།
(Nagarjuna's) Precious Garland:
All wheel-turning [kings]
Are asserted to possess these; however,
Their purity, beauty, and clarity
Cannot compete with even a fraction of the Buddhas'.
ཐུབ་པའི་ཕྱག་ཞབས་འཁོར་ལོས་མཚན་པ་སོགས་སོ་གཉིས་ཆོས་ཅན། ཁྱོད་ལ་མཚན་ཞེས་རྗོད་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་ཡོད་དེ།
སྔོན་སློབ་ལམ་དུ་བླ་མ་སྐྱེལ་བ་སོགས་བྱས་པའི་མཚན་མའམ། འབྲས་བུ་ཡིན་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་གྱིས་དེ་ལྟར་རྗོད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
The subject - the thirty-two, i.e. the Muni's hands and feet being marked with wheels and so forth - there is a reason for referring to those as "marks": Due to being the mark or result of having previously relied upon the lama and so forth while on the learner paths.
ཐུབ་པའི་སེན་མོ་ཟངས་མདོག་སོགས་བརྒྱད་ཅུ་པོ་ཆོས་ཅན། ཁྱོད་ལ་དཔེ་བྱད་ཅེས་རྗོད་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་ཡོད་དེ། དཔེ་དང་ཆ་བྱད་འདྲ་བས་དེ་ལྟར་རྗོད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
The subject - the eighty, i.e. the Muni's copper coloured nails and so forth - there is a reason for referring to those as "signs" (lit. exemplifiers): due to similarities in example and appearance.
དེ་ཆོས་ཅན། ཁྱོད་དཔེ་དང་ཆ་བྱད་འདྲ་ཚུལ་ཡོད་དེ།
དཔེ་ལས་དོན་གོ་སླ་བར་བྱེད་པ་བཞིན་དུ་ཁྱོད་ལས་ཀྱང་རང་རྒྱུད་ལྡན་གྱི་གང་ཟག་འདུ་བྱེད་ཐམས་ཅད་ལ་འདོད་ཆགས་དང་བྲལ་བ་སོགས་སུ་གོ་བར་བྱེད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
That subject, there is a way in which there are similarities in example and appearance because just as examples make the meaning easier to understand, these also make [others] understand that the person possessing those in their continuum is free from attachment to all compounded phenomena and so forth.
