Paths of emanation

རང་གི་བདག་རྐྱེན་དུ་གྱུར་པའི་རབ་མཐའི་བསམ་གཏན་ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་སྙོམས་འཇུག་གི་སྒྲིབ་པ་ཅི་རིགས་ལས་གྲོལ་ཞིང་སྤྲུལ་སྒྱུར་སྣ་ཚོགས་སྟོན་པར་ནུས་པས་
རབ་ཏུ་ཕྱེ་བའི་མཁྱེན་པ། སྐབས་འདིར་བསྟན་གྱི་སྤྲུལ་པའི་ལམ་གྱི་མཚན་ཉིད།
Definition (in this context): An exalted knower distinguished by:

1. Being liberated from its respective obscurations to meditative equipoise in dependence upon the final concentration that is its empowering condition; and
2. Being able to display various emanations.

Divisions:

1. Liberation of one possessing form looking at form གཟུགས་ཅན་གཟུགས་ལ་ལྟ་བའི་རྣམ་ཐར།
2. Liberation of the formless looking at form གཟུགས་མེད་གཟུགས་ལ་ལྟ་བའི་རྣམ་ཐར།
3. Liberation of the beautiful that clears obstacles གེགས་སེལ་སྡུག་པའི་རྣམ་ཐར།

Mode of cultivation: In dependence upon an actual final concentration: རབ་མཐའི་བསམ་གཏན་གྱི་དངོས་གཞི་ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་

1. The yogi considers themselves as possessing form and cultivates forms in accordance with their wishes: good/bad, big/small, and so forth རྣལ་འབྱོར་པ་རང་ཉིད་ལ་གཟུགས་ཅན་གྱི་འདུ་ཤེས་ཉེ་བར་བཞག་སྟེ།
   གཟུགས་རྣམས་ལ་བཟང་ངན་ཆེ་ཆུང་སོགས་ཇི་ལྟར་འདོད་པ་བཞིན་དུ་སྒོམ་པར་བྱེད་པ་དང༌།
2. The yogi considers themselves as not possessing form and cultivates as before
   རྣལ་འབྱོར་པ་རང་ཉིད་ལ་གཟུགས་ཅན་མ་ཡིན་པའི་འདུ་ཤེས་ཉེ་བར་བཞག་སྟེ་སྔར་བཞིན་སྒོམ་པ་དང༌།
3. Having eliminated aspects of conceptions of attachment and aversion observing external forms and of conceptions of establishment through entity in relation to beautiful and ugly forms, they cultivate all appearing forms as being beautiful in accordance with their wishes
   ཕྱི་རོལ་གྱི་གཟུགས་ལ་དམིགས་པའི་ཆགས་སྡང་གི་རྟོག་པ་དང༌། སྡུག་མི་སྡུག་ལ་སོགས་པའི་གཟུགས་རྣམས་ལ་ལྟོས་ཏེ་ངོ་བོ་ཉིད་ཀྱིས་གྲུབ་པར་རྟོག་པའི་རྣམ་པ་བསལ་ནས་གཟུགས་སྣང་ཐམས་ཅད་སྡུག་པ་ཇི་ལྟར་འདོད་པ་བཞིན་དུ་སྒོམ་པར་བྱེད།

གཟུགས་མེད་ཀྱི་རྣམ་ཐར་འགོག་པའི་རྣམ་ཐར་རྣམས་ཀྱི་སྙོམས་འཇུག་ལྔ་པོ་དེ་དག་ཇི་ལྟར་སྒོམ་པ་བཞིན་དུ་སྒོམ་པར་བྱེད་དོ།
The five meditative absorptions of the liberations of the Formless Realm and of cessation (see: Paths of happily abiding in this life) are also cultivated in accordance with how these are cultivated.

These three together with the five in the next category are collectively called the Eight liberations.

ཐེག་ཆེན་གྱི་དབང་དུ་བྱས་ན་ཚོགས་ལམ་ནས་ཡོད་དོ།
Boundaries: (for Mahayana) exists from the path of accumulation.

ལུས་རྟེན་ནི། ཐེག་ཆེན་གྱི་ཚོགས་ལམ་ཐོབ་པའི་བྱང་སེམས་དང༌། ཕྱིར་མི་འོང་ལུས་མངོན་བྱེད་དང༌། གཉིས་ཀའི་ཆ་ལས་རྣམ་གྲོལ་གྱི་ཉན་ཐོས་དགྲ་བཅོམ་པ་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་རྣམ་ཐར་སྒོམ་སྟེ། འདི་དག་གིས་བསམ་གཟུགས་བརྒྱད་ཐོབ་པའི་ཕྱིར་དུ་གཟུགས་ཀྱི་རྣམ་ཐར་གསུམ་གཟུགས་ཀྱི་རྟེན་ལ་བསྒོམས་ནས་གཟུགས་མེད་ཀྱི་རྣམ་ཐར་བཞི་ཁམས་གསུམ་གའི་རྟེན་ལ་སྒོམ་པ་ཡོད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
Physical support: Bodhisattvas who have attained the Mahayana path of accumulation, Non-Returners who actualise with a body, and Hearer Arhats liberated through both factors (afflictive obscurations and obscurations to meditative equipoise) cultivate liberations.
This is because they cultivate the three liberations of the form realm upon a form realm support and cultivate the four liberations of the formless realm upon the supports of all three realms, in order to attain the eight concentrations and formless absorptions.
The liberation of cessation is also cultivated on the supports of all three realms.

སེམས་རྟེན་ནི་རབ་མཐའི་བསམ་གཏན་བཞི་སོགས་ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་སྐྱེ་བ་ཡིན་ནོ།
Mental support: Arises in dependence upon the four final concentrations and so forth.

སྙོམས་འཇུག་གི་སྒྲིབ་པ་འགའ་ཞིག་ལས་རྣམ་པར་ཐར་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་གྱིས་དེ་ལྟར་བརྗོད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
Etymology: Due to being liberated from some obscurations to meditative absorption.

སྤྲུལ་སྒྱུར་ལ་གེགས་བྱེད་ཀྱི་སྒྲིབ་པ་སོགས་ལས་རྣམ་པར་ཐར་ཏེ་རང་གཞན་གྱི་དོན་བདེ་བླག་ཏུ་འགྲུབ་པའི་དགོས་པ་ཡོད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
Purpose: Being liberated from obscurations hindering emanation and so forth and thereby easily accomplishing the welfare of self and others.
