Practice of the collection of compassion

ཚོགས་སྒྲུབ་གང་ཞིག །རང་གི་དམིགས་ཡུལ་དུ་གྱུར་པའི་སེམས་ཅན་སྡུག་བསྔལ་དང་བྲལ་བར་འདོད་པའི་རྣམ་པ་ཅན་གྱི་བརྩེ་བ། སྙིང་རྗེའི་ཚོགས་སྒྲུབ་ཀྱི་མཚན་ཉིད།
Definition: That which is:

A practice of the collections; and
Affection possessing the aspect of wishing sentient beings (that are its object of observation) to be free from suffering.

Divisions: ཚོགས་སྒྲུབ་ཏུ་གྱུར་པའི་

Compassion observing sentient beings སེམས་ཅན་ལ་དམིགས་པའི་སྙིང་རྗེ།
Compassion observing phenomena ཆོས་ལ་དམིགས་པའི་སྙིང་རྗེ།
Compassion observing non-observation དམིགས་མེད་ལ་དམིགས་པའི་སྙིང་རྗེ།

Distinguishing features:

Causes and conditions (རྒྱུ་རྐྱེན་གྱི་ཁྱད་པར།): In dependence upon the cause of previous familiarisation with compassion, it arises from: སྔོན་སྙིང་རྗེ་བསྒོམས་པའི་རྒྱུ་ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་
- Observing sentient beings who rely upon the discordant class of the six perfections, due to being under the power of the three feelings (pleasant, unpleasant, and neutral);
  ཚོར་བ་བདེ་སྡུག་བཏང་སྙོམས་གསུམ་གྱི་གཞན་དབང་དུ་གྱུར་ནས་ཕར་ཕྱིན་དྲུག་གི་མི་མཐུན་ཕྱོགས་ལྷག་པར་བསྟན་པའི་སེམས་ཅན་ལ་དམིགས་ཤིང།
- The seed of uncontaminated exalted wisdom on the basis of the consciousness;
  རྣམ་ཤེས་ཀྱི་སྟེང་གི་ཟག་མེད་ཡེ་ཤེས་ཀྱི་ས་བོན་དང།
- The spiritual friend who teaches great compassion; and སྙིང་རྗེ་ཆེན་པོ་སྟོན་པ་པོའི་བཤེས་གཉེན་དང།
- Its preceding great love. རང་གི་སྔ་ལོགས་སུ་བྱུང་བའི་བྱམས་པ་ཆེན་པོ་ལས་བྱུང།
Object of observation: observing sentient beings དམིགས་པའི་ཁྱད་པར། སེམས་ཅན་ལ་དམིགས་ཤིང།
Aspect (རྣམ་པའི་ཁྱད་པར།): Possessing the aspect wishing them to be free from suffering, like a mother's affectionate love for her only child who is suffering through eating poison
བུ་གཅིག་པས་དུག་ཟོས་པས་ཉེན་པ་ལ་མ་སྡུག་པས་བརྩེ་བ་ལྟར་སྡུག་བསྔལ་དང་བྲལ་བར་འདོད་པའི་རྣམ་པ་ཅན་དང།
Function (བྱེད་ལས་ཀྱི་ཁྱད་པར།): Abandoning violence towards sentient beings and ripening sentient beings
སེམས་ཅན་ལ་རྣམ་འཚེ་སྤོང་ཞིང་སེམས་ཅན་རྣམས་སྨིན་པར་བྱེད་པ།
