Practice of the collections

ཚོགས་གཉིས་རྒྱ་ཆེན་པོས་ཟིན་པའི་ཐེག་ཆེན་གྱི་སྦྱོར་ལམ་ཆོས་མཆོག་འབྲིང་མན་ཆད་ལས་ཁྱད་པར་དུ་འཕགས་ཤིང།
རང་འབྲས་བྱང་ཆེན་འབྱིན་པའི་སེམས་དཔའི་རྣལ་འབྱོར། ཚོགས་སྒྲུབ་ཀྱི་མཚན་ཉིད།
Definition: A Bodhisattva yoga that:

1. Is superior to the Mahayana path of preparation's middling supreme qualities and below conjoined with the vast two collections; and
2. Induces its resultant great enlightenment.

• Practices together with their support སྤྱོད་པ་རྟེན་དང་བཅས།
  • Practice of the collection of compassion སྙིང་རྗེའི་ཚོགས་སྒྲུབ།

ས་མཚམས་ནི་ཐེག་ཆེན་གྱི་སྦྱོར་ལམ་ཆོས་མཆོག་ཆེན་པོ་ནས་རྒྱུན་མཐའི་བར་དུ་ཡོད།
Boundaries: exists from the Mahayana path of preparation's great supreme dharma level and up to the end of the continuum.

བཅུ་བདུན་པོ་དེ་ཆོས་ཅན། ཚོགས་ཞེས་བརྗོད་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་ཡོད་དེ།
བྱང་ཆུབ་ཆེན་པོ་ཡང་དག་པར་འཛིན་པའམ་འགྲུབ་པར་བྱེད་པའི་ངོ་བོ་ཡིན་པས་ན་དེ་ལྟར་བརྗོད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
Reason for being called "collection": Due to thoroughly holding or accomplishing great enlightenment.

Division of "great enlightenment" in this context:

1. Temporary great enlightenment (གནས་སྐབས་ཀྱི།): path of seeing
2. Final great enlightenment (མཐར་ཐུག): The result - Great Enlightenment

ཚོགས་ཀྱི་སྐད་དོད་སཾ་བྷ་ར་ཞེས་པའི་སཾ་ནི་ཡང་དག་པར་གྲུབ་པ། བྷ་ནི་ངོ་བོ། ར་ནི་འཛིན་པ་ལ་འཇུག་པའི་ཕྱིར།
Sanskrit: Sambhara

• Sam: complete accomplishment
• Bha: entity
• Ra: holding

Definite order: ཚོགས་བཅུ་བདུན་གྱི་གོ་རིམས་འདི་ལྟར་ངེས་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་ཡོད་དེ།

• In order to enact the welfare of numberless sentient beings, one is motivated by love and great compassion; སེམས་ཅན་གྲངས་མེད་པའི་དོན་བྱེད་པ་ལ་བརྩེ་བ་སྙིང་རྗེ་ཆེན་པོས་ཀུན་ནས་བླངས་ཏེ།
• In order to set sentient beings in the happiness of this life, one practices generosity;
  སེམས་ཅན་རྣམས་ཚེ་འདིའི་བདེ་བ་ལ་འགོད་པ་ལ་སྦྱིན་པ་གཏོང་།
• In order to attain the happiness of future lives, one sets them in ethics;
  ཕྱི་མའི་བདེ་བ་ཐོབ་པའི་ཕྱིར་ཚུལ་ཁྲིམས་ལ་འགོད།
• In order to attain definite happiness, one sets them in patience, joyous effort, and concentration;
  གཅིག་ཏུ་ངེས་པའི་བདེ་བ་ཐོབ་པའི་ཕྱིར་བཟོད་བརྩོན་བསམ་གཏན་གསུམ་ལ་འགོད།
• In order to attain lasting happiness, one sets them in the perfection of wisdom;
  གཏན་དུ་བདེ་བ་ཐོབ་ཕྱིར་དུ་ཤེས་རབ་ཀྱི་ཕར་ཕྱིན་ལ་འགོད།
• Since concentration arises in those possessing the method of the six perfections, the calm abiding that abides single-pointedly in others' welfare;
  ཕར་ཕྱིན་དྲུག་གི་ཐབས་དང་ལྡན་པ་ལ་ཏིང་ངེ་འཛིན་སྐྱེ་བས་གཞན་དོན་ལ་རྩེ་གཅིག་ཏུ་གནས་པའི་ཞི་གནས་དང་།
• Since special insight arises in those attaining that, the special insight that realises through non-observation of the object of calm abiding; དེ་ཐོབ་པ་ལ་ལྷག་མཐོང་སྐྱེ་བས་ཞི་གནས་ཀྱི་ཡུལ་མི་དམིགས་པར་རྟོགས་པའི་ལྷག་མཐོང་དང་།
• Since that observes emptiness it is possible to fall to the Hinayana, therefore the path of union that does not fall to the extremes of existence and peace through method and wisdom;
  དེས་སྟོང་ཉིད་ལ་དམིགས་པས་ན་ཐེག་དམན་དུ་ལྷུང་སྲིད་པས་ཐབས་ཤེས་ཀྱིས་སྲིད་ཞིའི་མཐར་མི་ལྷུང་བའི་ཟུང་དུ་འབྲེལ་བའི་ལམ་དང་།
• Since those possessing the union of calm abiding and special insight enact the welfare of sentient beings through the mental engagement of the exalted knower of all aspect, there is skilful means;
  ཞི་ལྷག་ཟུང་འབྲེལ་དང་ལྡན་པ་ནི། རྣམ་མཁྱེན་ཡིད་བྱེད་ཀྱིས་སེམས་ཅན་གྱི་དོན་བྱེད་པས་དེའི་འོག་ཏུ་ཐབས་མཁས་དང་།
• Since knowing that method necessarily trains in the collection of wisdom, the exalted wisdom realising emptiness; ཐབས་དེ་ཤེས་པ་ནི་ཡེ་ཤེས་ཀྱི་ཚོགས་ལ་སློབ་དགོས་པས་སྟོང་ཉིད་རྟོགས་པའི་ཡེ་ཤེས་དང་།
• Through cultivating that wisdom, arises merit for enacting the welfare of sentient beings using correct wisdom and concentration, therefore the collection of merit;
  ཡེ་ཤེས་དེ་སྒོམ་པས་ཡང་དག་པའི་ཤེས་རབ་དང་། ཏིང་ངེ་འཛིན་གྱིས་སེམས་ཅན་གྱི་དོན་བྱེད་པ་ལ་བསོད་ནམས་འབྱུང་བས་བསོད་ནམས་ཀྱི་ཚོགས་དང་།
• Since the path of seeing and so forth are attained through effort in the thirty-seven harmonies that have familiarised with the two collections, the collection of paths;
  ཚོགས་གཉིས་གོམས་པའི་བྱང་ཕྱོགས་སོ་བདུན་ལ་འབད་པས་མཐོང་ལམ་སོགས་ཐོབ་པས་དེའི་འོག་ཏུ་ལམ་གྱི་ཚོགས་དང་།
• In order for those possessing the paths to have limitless mindfulness that is the cause of teaching dharma for many eons through the force of contemplating the meaning of the letters (ah for example), the collection of retentions such as the retention of words and so forth;
  ལམ་དང་ལྡན་པ་ནི། ཨ་ལ་སོགས་པ་ཡི་གེའི་དོན་བསམ་པའི་སྟོབས་ཀྱིས་བསྐལ་པ་དུ་མར་ཆོས་བསྟན་པའི་རྒྱུའི་དྲན་པ་གཏུགས་པ་མེད་པར་འགྱུར་བའི་ཕྱིར་
  དེའི་འོག་ཏུ་ཚིག་གི་གཟུངས་ལ་སོགས་པ་གཟུངས་ཀྱི་ཚོགས་དང་།
• Due to acting as the support for subsequent qualities of the occasion of the realisations of having attained the retentions, the collection of grounds;
  གཟུངས་ཐོབ་པའི་རྟོགས་པའི་གནས་སྐབས་ཀྱི་ཡོན་ཏན་ཕྱི་མ་ཕྱི་མའི་རྟེན་བྱེད་པས་དེ་ནས་སའི་ཚོགས་དང་།
• Since the grounds in the entity of the paths of seeing and meditation are divided by the occasions of abandoning their respective objects of abandonment, they become the collection of antidotes.
  མཐོང་སྒོམ་གྱི་ངོ་བོར་གྱུར་པའི་སས་རང་རང་གི་སྤང་བྱ་སྤོང་བའི་གནས་སྐབས་ཀྱི་དབྱེ་བས་གཉེན་པོའི་ཚོགས་སུ་འགྱུར་བ།

འདིར་བསྟན་ཚོགས་སྒྲུབ་ལ་བཅུ་བདུན་དུ་གྲངས་ངེས་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་ཡོད་དེ།
Definite number:

• In terms of attitude and application: compassion and the uncommon six (7)
  བསམ་སྦྱོར་གཉིས་ཀྱི་དབང་དུ་བྱས་ནས་བརྩེ་བ་དང་། ཐུན་མོང་མ་ཡིན་པ་དྲུག་བཞག
• In terms of meditative equipoise or not: calm abiding, special insight, their union, and skilful means (4)

• In terms of view and conduct: the two collections of wisdom and method (2)
