Presentation of vehicles

དོན་གཉིས་གང་རུང་ཁུར་དུ་འཁྱེར་བའི་ལམ་ཞུགས་ཀྱི་མངོན་རྟོགས་དེ། ཐེག་པའི་མཚན་ཉིད།
Definition of vehicle: A clear realisation of someone who has entered a path and carries the responsibility of any of the two welfares.

Divisions:

1. Mahayana vehicle ཐེག་ཆེན་གྱི་ཐེག་པ།
2. Hinayana vehicle ཐེག་དམན་གྱི་ཐེག་པ།

ཐེག་པ་གང་ཞིག ཆེན་པོ་བདུན་དང་ལྡན་པས་རབ་ཏུ་ཕྱེ་བ། དང་པོའི་མཚན་ཉིད།
Definition of Mahayana vehicle: That which is 1) a vehicle and 2) distinguished by possessing the seven greatnesses.

The seven greatnesses: ཆེན་པོ་བདུན་དང་ལྡན་ཏེ།

1. Great object of observation: the vast Dharma of the sutra baskets and so forth
   དམིགས་པ་མདོ་སྡེ་ལ་སོགས་པའི་ཆོས་རྒྱ་ཆེན་པོ་དང་ལྡན་པ།
2. Great accomplishment: accomplishing the two welfares སྒྲུབ་པ་ཆེན་པོ་དོན་གཉིས་སྒྲུབ་པ་དང༌།
3. Great exalted wisdom: realising the two selflessnesses ཡེ་ཤེས་ཆེན་པོ་བདག་མེད་གཉིས་རྟོགས་པ།
4. Great striving: accumulating the collections over three countless eons
   རྩོམ་པ་ཆེན་པོ་གྲངས་མེད་གསུམ་དུ་ཚོགས་གཉིས་བསགས་པ།
5. Great skill in means: thoroughly bearing samsara and not taking the afflictions as the main object of abandonment ཐབས་མཁས་པ་ཆེན་པོ་འཁོར་བ་ཡོངས་སུ་འཛིན་ཅིང་ཉོན་མོངས་པ་སྤང་བྱའི་གཙོ་བོར་མི་བྱེད་པ།
6. Great perfect achievement: achieving the strengths and so forth ཡང་དག་པར་འགྲུབ་པ་ཆེན་པོ་སྟོབས་སོགས་འགྲུབ་པ།
7. Great enlightened activities: having [attained] complete enlightenment, enacting the welfare of limitless sentient beings. འཕྲིན་ལས་ཆེན་པོ་མངོན་པར་སངས་རྒྱས་ཏེ་སེམས་ཅན་མཐའ་ཡས་པའི་དོན་བྱེད་པ།

ཐེག་པ་གང་ཞིག ཆེན་པོ་བདུན་དང་མི་ལྡན་པས་རབ་ཏུ་ཕྱེ་བ། གཉིས་པའི་མཚན་ཉིད།
Definition of Hinayana vehicle: That which is 1) a vehicle and 2) distinguished by not possessing the seven greatnesses.

Divisions:

1. Hearer's vehicle ཉན་ཐོས་ཀྱི་ཐེག་པ།
2. Solitary Realiser's vehicle རང་རྒྱལ་གྱི་ཐེག་པ།

ཚོགས་ལམ་ནས་སངས་རྒྱས་ཀྱི་སའི་བར་དུ་ཡོད།
Boundaries: From the path of accumulation and up to the Buddha-ground.

ཐེག་པ་ལ་གསུམ་དུ་འབྱེད་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་ཡོད་དེ། ཐེག་ཆེན་གྱི་ཐེག་པ་དང༌། ཐེག་དམན་གྱི་ཐེག་པ་གཉིས་ལམ་སྤྱིའི་ལུས་མི་འདྲ་ཞིང་ཐོབ་བྱའི་འབྲས་བུ་ལ་དམན་མཆོག་གི་རིམ་པ་ཡོད་པས་གཉིས་ཀའི་སྒོ་ནས་བཞག ཉན་ཐོས་ཀྱི་ཐེག་པ་དང༌། རང་རྒྱལ་གྱི་ཐེག་པ་གཉིས་ལ་ལམ་སྤྱིའི་ལུས་མི་འདྲ་བའི་ཁྱད་པར་ཆེར་མེད་ཀྱང་འབྲས་བུ་ལ་དམན་མཆོག་གི་རིམ་པ་ཡོད་པས་དེའི་སྒོ་ནས་བཞག་པའི་ཕྱིར།
There is a reason for differentiating the vehicles into three:

• The Mahayana and Hinayana vehicles are dissimilar in terms of the overview of their general paths and there is an order to the magnitude of their attained results, therefore both are presented;
• Although there is not much difference in terms of the overview of the general paths of the Hearer and Solitary Realiser vehicles, there is an order to the magnitude of their attained results, therefore those are presented.
