Seven branches of enlightenment

རང་གི་འབྲས་བུར་གྱུར་པའི་བྱང་ཆུབ་ཀྱི་རྒྱུ་བྱེད་པའི་འཕགས་རྒྱུད་ཀྱི་མཁྱེན་པ། བྱང་ཆུབ་ཡན་ལག་གི་མཚན་ཉིད།
Definition: An exalted knower in an Arya's continuum that acts as the cause for its resultant enlightenment.

Divisions:

1. Mindfulness དྲན་པ།
2. Thorough discrimination of phenomena ཆོས་རབ་ཏུ་རྣམ་པར་འབྱེད་པ།
3. Joyous effort བརྩོན་འགྲུས།
4. Joy དགའ་བ།
5. Pliancy ཤིན་ཏུ་སྦྱངས་པ།
6. Concentration ཏིང་ངེ་འཛིན།
7. Equanimity བཏང་སྙོམས།

Subsumed into five:

• Branch of abiding གནས་ཀྱི་ཡན་ལག - 1
• Branch of nature རང་བཞིན་གྱི་ཡན་ལག - 2
• Branch of definite emergence ངེས་འབྱུང་གི་ཡན་ལག - 3
• Branch of benefits ཕན་ཡོན་གྱི་ཡན་ལག - 4
• Branches of non-affliction ཉོན་མོངས་མེད་པའི་ཡན་ལག - 5, 6, 7

མཐོང་ལམ་ནས་ཡོད་དོ།
Boundaries: exist from the path of seeing.

རང་གི་འབྲས་བུར་གྱུར་པའི་བྱང་ཆུབ་ཀྱི་རྒྱུ་ཡིན་པས་ན་བྱང་ཆུབ་ཡན་ལག་ཞེས་བྱའོ།
Etymology: Due to being the cause of their resultant enlightenment.

Objects of observation: the four truths.

དྲན་པ་ཡང་དག་བྱང་ཆུབ་ཀྱི་ཡན་ལག་གིས་སྡུག་བདེན་ལ་དམིགས་ནས་དེའི་དབེན་པ་ཚོལ་ཞིང་གནས།
ཀུན་འབྱུང་ལ་དམིགས་ནས་དེའི་འདོད་ཆགས་དང་བྲལ་བ་ཚོལ་ཞིང་གནས། འགོག་བདེན་ལ་དམིགས་ནས་དེ་མངོན་དུ་བྱེད་པ་ཚོལ་ཞིང་གནས།
ལམ་བདེན་ལ་དམིགས་ནས་དེ་སྒོམ་པ་ཚོལ་ཞིང་གནས་པར་བྱེད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
Mode of cultivation: Through observing true sufferings by means of the branch of enlightenment of mindfulness, one seeks and abides in isolation from those; through observing origins, one seeks and abides in separation from attachment to those; through observing true cessation, one seeks and abides in actualising that; and through observing true paths, one seeks and abides in cultivating those.

ཡན་ལག་བདུན་པོ་འདི་འཁོར་ལོས་སྒྱུར་བའི་རྒྱལ་པོའི་རིན་པོ་ཆེ་སྣ་བདུན་དང་ཆོས་མཚུངས་པ་ཡིན་ཏེ། གོ་རིམས་བཞིན་དུ་
These seven branches are similar to the seven royal treasures of wheel-turning kings:

1. Conquering all unconquered objects of knowledge ཤེས་བྱ་མ་རྒྱལ་བ་རྣམས་ལས་རྒྱལ་བར་བྱེད་པ་དང༌།
2. Destroying all conceptions grasping at signs མཚན་འཛིན་གྱི་རྟོག་པ་ཐམས་ཅད་འཇོམས་པར་བྱེད་པ་དང༌།
3. Accomplishing qualities such as clairvoyance and so forth མངོན་ཤེས་ལ་སོགས་པའི་ཡོན་ཏན་རྣམས་སྒྲུབ་པར་བྱེད་པ་དང༌།
4. Creating a joyful mind due to increasing the illumination of the dharma
   ཆོས་ཀྱི་སྣང་བ་རྣམ་པར་འཕེལ་བས་སེམས་དགའ་བར་བྱེད་པ་དང༌།
5. Generating the bliss of pliancy due to being liberated from the obscurations of negative states
   གནས་ངན་ལེན་གྱི་སྒྲིབ་པ་ལས་ཐར་པས་ཤིན་ཏུ་སྦྱངས་པའི་བདེ་བ་སྐྱེད་པ་དང༌།
6. Accomplishing all wished for aims in dependence upon concentration
   ཏིང་ངེ་འཛིན་ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་འདོད་དོན་ཐམས་ཅད་སྒྲུབ་པ་དང༌།
7. Destroying all objects of abandonment in dependence upon meditative equipoise and taking up all qualities of lineage in dependence upon subsequent attainment
   མཉམ་གཞག་ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་སྤང་བྱ་རྣམས་འཇོམས་ཤིང་རྗེས་ཐོབ་ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་རིགས་པའི་ཡོན་ཏན་ལེན་པ།

མངོན་རྟོགས་དང་སྦྱོར་བ་དང་དེའི་འབྲེལ་བའི་ལམ་གྱི་ངོ་བོ་དྲོད་སོགས་བཞི་ཐོབ་པ་ལས།
མངོན་པར་རྟོགས་པའི་ལམ་གྱི་ངོ་བོ་བདེན་པ་མངོན་སུམ་དུ་གསར་དུ་མཐོང་བའི་ལམ་འབྱུང་བས་དེ་ལྟར་བཤད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
Connection to Five strengths: Through the attainment of the four of heat and so forth (whose natures are the paths that prepare for and connect to clear realisation), the path newly and directly seeing the truth arises (whose nature is the path of clear realisation)

མཐོང་སྤང་མ་ལུས་པར་སྤོང་བའི་དགོས་པ་ཡོད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
Purpose: to abandon all objects of abandonment of the path of seeing without exception.
