Six Faculties

རང་གི་བདག་འབྲས་སུ་གྱུར་པའི་མིག་གི་རྣམ་པར་ཤེས་པའི་བདག་རྐྱེན་དུ་གྱུར་པའི་ནང་གི་གཟུགས་ཅན་དྭང་བའམ། རང་གི་བདག་འབྲས་སུ་གྱུར་པའི་མིག་གི་རྣམ་པར་ཤེས་པའི་བདག་རྐྱེན་བྱེད་པའི་རྟེན་བཅས་ཀྱི་མིག་དབང་གཟུགས་ཅན་པ་དང་མིག་དབང་གཟུགས་ཅན་པ་གང་རུང་གིས་བསྡུས་པ། མིག་གི་དབང་པོའི་མཚན་ཉིད།
Definition of eye-faculty: A clear inner form that is the empowering condition for the eye-consciousness that is its empowered result.
Or: That included within either:

A supporting physical eye-faculty that acts as the empowering condition for the eye-consciousness that is its empowered result; or
A physical eye-faculty

Divisions:

Supporting physical eye-faculty རྟེན་བཅས་ཀྱི་མིག་དབང་གཟུགས་ཅན་པ།
e.g. the eye-faculty while the eye-consciousness is looking at form
མིག་གི་རྣམ་པར་ཤེས་པ་གཟུགས་ལ་ལྟ་བཞིན་པའི་མིག་གི་དབང་པོ་ལྟ་བུ།
Concomitant physical eye-faculty དེ་མཚུངས་ཀྱི་མིག་དབང་གཟུགས་ཅན་པ།
e.g. the eye eye-faculty during deep sleep གཉིད་འཐུག་པོ་ལོག་བཞིན་པའི་གནས་སྐབས་ཀྱི་མིག་དབང་ལྟ་བུ།

Apply the same for the remaining four physical faculties.

དབང་པོ་དེ་གྲོང་གི་དཔེས་སྟོན་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་ཡོད་དེ། གྲོང་དེས་སྐྱེ་བོའི་རྟེན་བྱེད་པ་བཞིན་དུ། མིག་སོགས་དབང་པོ་ལྔ་པོ་དེས་ཀྱང་རྣམ་པར་ཤེས་པའི་རྟེན་བྱེད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
The faculties are indicated with the example of a house: Just as the house acts as the support for people, the five faculties (eyes etc.) act as a support for consciousness.

དབང་རྟེན་དེ་གྲོང་ཁྱེར་གྱི་དཔེས་སྟོན་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་ཡོད་དེ། གྲོང་ཁྱེར་དེས་གྲོང་གི་རྟེན་བྱེད་པ་བཞིན་དུ། དབང་རྟེན་གྱིས་ཀྱང་དབང་པོའི་རྟེན་བྱེད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
The faculty-supports are indicated with the example of a town: Just as the town acts as the support for the houses, the faculty-supports act as the supports for the faculties.

དབང་ཡུལ་དེ་གྲོང་རྡལ་གྱི་དཔེས་སྟོན་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་ཡོད་དེ། གྲོང་རྡལ་དེ་སྐྱེས་བུས་འཇུག་པ་སོགས་བྱེད་པའི་ཡུལ་ཡིན་པ་བཞིན་དུ།
དབང་ཡུལ་གཟུགས་སྒྲ་དྲི་རོ་རེག་བྱ་རྣམས་ཀྱང་རྣམ་པར་ཤེས་པ་འཇུག་པ་སོགས་ཀྱི་ཡུལ་ཡིན་པས་དེ་ལྟར་བསྟན་པའི་ཕྱིར།
The sense-objects are indicated with the example of a market: Just as the market is the place where people engage in activities and so forth, the sense-objects (forms, sounds, smells, tastes, and tangibility) are the objects of the engagement of consciousness.

རྣམ་པར་ཤེས་པ་ལ་བདག་གི་སྒྲས་སྟོན་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་ཡོད་དེ། སེམས་བྱུང་ལ་དབང་བསྒྱུར་བ་སོགས་ཡིན་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་གྱིས་དེ་ལྟར་བསྟན་པའི་ཕྱིར།
The consciousness is indicated with the term "self": Due to being the controller of the mental factors and so forth.

སེམས་བྱུང་ལ་གང་ཟག་གི་སྒྲས་སྟོན་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་ཡོད་དེ། རྣམ་པར་ཤེས་པའི་དབང་བསྒྱུར་བྱ་ཡིན་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་གྱིས་དེ་ལྟར་བསྟན་པའི་ཕྱིར།
The mental factors are indicated with the term "person": Due to being that controlled by the consciousness.

དེས་ན་གྲོང་དང་གྲོང་ཁྱེར་དང་གྲོང་རྡལ་སོགས་ཀྱི་ཁྱད་པར་ཡོད་དེ།
Differences:

Place: Malaya and so forth མ་ལ་ཡ་ལ་སོགས་པའི་ཡུལ་དང༌།
House: one household and so forth ཁྱིམ་གཅིག་ལ་སོགས་པ་ནི་གྲོང་དང༌།
Town: place where there are the eighteen types of industry (dictionary: hospital, woodcutter, etc.)
བཟོའི་བྱེ་བྲག་བཅོ་བརྒྱད་ཡོད་པ་ནི་གྲོང་ཁྱེར་དང༌།
Market: place where there are many shops ཚོང་པ་མང་པོ་ཡོད་པ་ནི་གྲོང་རྡལ་དང༌།
Region: a place where the four castes live རིགས་བཞི་གནས་པའི་ཡུལ་ལ་ལྗོངས་ཞེས་བྱ་བ་ཡིན་པའི་ཕྱིར།

ཁྱོད་ཀྱིས་གོ་རིམས་བཞིན་དུ་གཟུགས་ལ་སོགས་པའི་དོན་ལྔ་ལ་དམིགས་པ་ལ་དབང་བྱེད་པའི་རྒྱུ་མཚན་གྱིས་དེ་ལྟར་བཤད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
Etymology: Due to those respectively acting to facilitate the observation of the five objects (forms and so forth).
