Three meanings of rtog pa

སྤྱིར་རྟོག་པ་ལ་གསུང་རབ་ལས་མང་དུ་གསུངས་ཏེ།
In general, the term rtog pa has many meanings in scriptures:

• The Abhidharmakosha says "Investigation and analysis are coarse and subtle."
  This explains that investigation to possess the aspect of a coarse mind that is included within [the mental factors of] intention and wisdom.
  མཛོད་ལས། རྟོག་དང་དཔྱོད་པ་རྩིང་ཞིབ་ཉིད། ཅེས་སེམས་པ་དང་ཤེས་རབ་ཀྱི་ཆར་གྱུར་པའི་སེམས་རྩིང་བའི་རྣམ་པ་ཅན་ལ་རྟོག་པར་བཤད་པ་དང།
  
  
• The Pramanavarttika says: "A consciousness apprehending the sound or meaning [generality] of that; that is conceptual." This explains that conception to be an apprehension of sound and meaning [generalities] as suitable to be mixed.
  རྣམ་འགྲེལ་ལས། ཤེས་གང་གང་ལ་སྒྲ་དོན་འཛིན། དེ་ནི་དེ་ལ་རྟོག་པ་ཡིན། ཞེས་སྒྲ་དོན་འདྲེས་རུང་དུ་འཛིན་པ་ལ་རྟོག་པར་བཤད་པ་དང།
  
  
• Differentiating Middle from Extremes says: "Possessing conceptuality of all that is unreal are the minds and mental factors of the three realms." This explains that conceptions are the minds and mental factors of the three realms, to which apprehenders and apprehendeds appear as dual.
  དབུས་མཐའ་ལས། ཡང་དག་མ་ཡིན་ཀུན་རྟོག་ཡོད། སེམས་དང་སེམས་བྱུང་ཁམས་གསུམ་པ། ཞེས་གཟུང་འཛིན་གཉིས་སུ་སྣང་བའི་ཁམས་གསུམ་པའི་སེམས་སེམས་བྱུང་ལ་རྟོག་པར་བཤད་པ་དུ་མ་ཡོད་པའི་ཕྱིར།
