Twelve qualities of training
Divisions: (12) སྦྱངས་པའི་ཡོན་ཏན་བཅུ་གཉིས་ཏེ།
- Three in relation to food ཟས་ཀྱི་དབང་དུ་བྱས་པ་གསུམ།
- Going for alms བསོད་སྙོམས་པ།
Gradually moving through households, eating whatever alms one gets; thinking "I have received wonderful food and drink!" and not rising above one's status
ཁྱིམ་རྣམས་སུ་རིམ་གྱིས་བརྒྱུས་ཏེ་བསོད་སྙོམས་ཇི་ཙམ་རྙེད་པ་ཟ་བར་བྱེད་ཀྱི་བདག་གིས་འདི་ནས་བཟང་བ་དང་བཅའ་བ་བཟང་པོ་འཐོབ་བོ་སྙམ་ནས། མགོ་འཕང་བསྟོད་དེ་མི་འགྲོ་བའོ། - Single sitting སྟན་གཅིག་པ།
During a single sitting, not eating before taking as much food as will sustain one; thinking "I will be sustained by this." and eating everything at the same time.
སྟན་གཅིག་པོ་དེ་ལ་འདུག་ནས་ཇི་ཙམ་གྱིས་བདག་འཚོ་བའི་ཟས་ཐམས་ཅད་མ་བླངས་ཀྱི་བར་དུ་མི་ཟ་ཞིང་འདིས་འཚོའོ་སྙམ་པ་དང་།
ཐམས་ཅད་ཅིག་ཆར་བླངས་ན་ཟ་བའོ། - Not taking food later ཟས་ཕྱིས་མི་ལེན་པ། (not taking a second time)
- Going for alms བསོད་སྙོམས་པ།
- Three in relation to clothing གོས་ཀྱི་དབང་དུ་བྱས་པ་གསུམ།
- Only the three robes ཆོས་གོས་གསུམ་པ།
Living with the three robes: shawl, upper robes, and lower robes, and not wearing any excess robes.
སྣམ་སྦྱར། བླ་གོས། མཐང་གོས་གསུམ་གྱིས་འཚོ་བར་བྱེད་ཅིང་དེ་ལས་ལྷག་པའི་གོས་མི་འཆང་བ། - Made of cotton (coarse) ཕྱིང་བ་པ།
Any robes one wears are exclusively made from cotton and not wearing others.
ཆོས་གོས་གསུམ་མམ་གོས་ལྷ་ཅིག་འཆང་བ་ཐམས་ཅད་བལ་ལས་བྱས་པ་ཤ་སྟག་འཆང་གི་དེ་ལས་གཞན་མི་འཆང་བ། - Wearing leftovers ཕྱག་དར་ཁྲོད་པ།
Taking suitable discarded clothing (that are mouldy etc. and dirtied by excrement and urine), washing them six times, colouring them a good colour, and then wearing them.
བལ་མོ་པ་ཆེ་ལ་སོགས་པར་བོར་བའི་གོས་བཤང་གཅི་སོགས་ཀྱིས་རེག་པ་མི་གཙང་བ་རྣམས་བོད་དེ་རུང་བ་བླངས་ཏེ་
བཀྲུས་དྲུག་ཁ་དོག་བཟང་པོར་བསྒྱུར་ནས་འཆང་བར་བྱེད་པ།
Or if new, letting others wear them for six months before using.

- Six in relation to housing གནས་མལ་གྱི་དབང་དུ་བྱས་པ་དྲུག
- Living in isolation དགོན་པ་བ།
Living in hermitages and forests isolated from towns and cities.
གྲོང་དང་གྲོང་རྡལ་ལ་སོགས་པས་དབེན་པའི་དགོན་པ་དང་ནགས་འདབ་ལ་སོགས་པར་གནས་པ། - At the foot of trees ཤིང་དྲུང་པ།
Taking residence at the foot of trees.
ཤིང་ལྗོན་པའི་དྲུང་དུ་གནས་འཆའ་ཞིང་བརྟེན་པར་བྱེད་པ། - Unsheltered བླ་གབ་མེད་པ།
Setting up a residence without a roof or coverings
སྟེང་གི་ཐོག་མ་བཀབ་ཅིང་མ་གཡོགས་པའི་ཕྱོགས་སུ་གནས་འཆའ་བར་བྱེད་པ། - Living in cemeteries དུར་ཁྲོད་པ།
Taking residence in cemeteries where people are discarded upon death.
གང་དུ་སྐྱེ་བོ་ཤིའོ་ཅོག་འདོར་བའི་དུར་ཁྲོད་དུ་གནས་འཆའ་བར་བྱེད་པ། - Remaining upright ཅོག་བུ་པ།
Sitting upright upon a throne or stool or grass; not leaning on the back or sides of the throne etc.
ཁྲིའམ་ཁྲིའུའམ་རྩྭའི་སྟེང་དུ་ཅོག་པུར་འདུག་སྟེ་ཁྲི་ལ་སོགས་པ་ལ་རྒྱབ་བམ་གློས་མི་བརྟེན་པ། - Staying as is གཞི་ཇི་བཞིན་པ།
Setting up one's resting place with laid out grass, leaves, and so forth; not changing or repairing it again and again after having set it up once.
