Cause and Effect

རྒྱུའི་མཚན་ཉིད་ཡོད་དེ། སྐྱེད་བྱེད་དེ་དེ་ཡིན་པའི་ཕྱིར། / ཕན་འདོགས་བྱེད་དེ་དེ་ཡིན་པའི་ཕྱིར།
རྒྱུ་འབྲས་བུ་དངོས་པོ་གསུམ་དོན་གཅིག
Definition of cause: Producer / Benefitter.
Cause, effect, and functioning thing are mutually inclusive.

When divided:

Direct cause དངོས་རྒྱུ།
Indirect cause བརྒྱུད་རྒྱུ།

When divided:

Substantial cause ཉེར་ལེན།
Cooperative conditions ལྷན་ཅིག་བྱེད་རྐྱེན།

འབྲས་བུའི་མཚན་ཉིད་ཡོད་དེ། བསྐྱེད་བྱ་དེ་དེ་ཡིན་པའི་ཕྱིར། / ཕན་འདོགས་བྱ་དེ་དེ་ཡིན་པའི་ཕྱིར།
Definition of effect: that which is produced / that which is benefitted.

When divided:

Direct effect དངོས་འབྲས།
Indirect effect བརྒྱུད་འབྲས།

If it is a functioning thing, it is pervaded by being both; but a pot's direct effect and a pot's indirect effect are mutually exclusive.

Nominal divisions of cause and effect:

Cause for positing (འཇོག་བྱེད་ཀྱི་རྒྱུ།) and posited result (རྣམ་པར་བཞག་བྱའི་འབྲས་བུ)
Mutually inclusive with definition (མཚན་ཉིད།) and definiendum (མཚོན་བྱ།)
Cause for knowing (ཤེས་བྱེད་ཀྱི་རྒྱུ།) and effect that is known (བྱེད་བྱའི་འབྲས་བུ།)
Mutually inclusive with correct sign (རྟགས་ཡང་དག) and probandum (བསྒྲུབ་བྱ།)
Producing cause (སྐྱེད་བྱེད་ཀྱི་རྒྱུ) and produced effect (བསྐྱེད་བྱའི་འབྲས་བུ།)
