Appearance without ascertainment

རང་གི་འཇུག་ཡུལ་དུ་གྱུར་པའི་རང་མཚན་གསལ་བར་སྣང་བ་ཡང་ཡིན།
རང་གི་འཇུག་ཡུལ་དུ་གྱུར་པའི་རང་མཚན་ལ་ངེས་པ་འདྲེན་མི་ནུས་པ་ཡང་ཡིན་པའི་གཞི་མཐུན་པར་གྱུར་པའི་རིག་པ། རང་ཉིད་སྣང་ལ་མ་ངེས་ཀྱི་བློའི་མཚན་ཉིད།
Definition: A knower that is a common locus of 1) the specifically characterised phenomenon that is its engaged object clearly appearing to it and 2) not being able to induce ascertainment with respect to the specifically characterised phenomenon that is its engaged object.

Specifying "engaged object" is in order to eliminate a sense consciousness to which snow mountains appear as blue from being included, since for that:

• The specifically characterised phenomenon that is its engaged object (white) does not clearly appear; but
• There is a clear appearance of the specifically characterised phenomenon that is its object (white) as blue (though its not) and it is not able to induce ascertainment wrt that due to erroneously engaging it (i.e. wrong consciousness).

1. Sense direct perceivers apprehending blue that acts to induce a doubt thinking "did I see blue or not?" ཁོ་བོས་སྔོན་པོ་མཐོང་ངམ་མ་མཐོང་སྙམ་དུ་ཐེ་ཚོམ་འདྲེན་པར་བྱེད་པའི་སྔོན་འཛིན་དབང་པོའི་མངོན་སུམ།
2. Mental direct perceivers apprehending the five objects, such as forms, in the continuum of an ordinary being སོ་སོ་སྐྱེ་བོའི་རྒྱུད་ཀྱི་གཟུགས་སོགས་དོན་ལྔ་འཛིན་པའི་ཡིད་མངོན།
