Self-ascertainment valid cognisers

ཚད་མ་གང་ཞིག རང་གི་གཞལ་བྱའི་བདག་ཉིད་ཡུལ་སྟེང་དུ་གནས་པ་མེད་ན། རང་ཉིད་མི་འབྱུང་བ་ལ་རང་སྟོབས་ཀྱིས་ངེས་པ་འདྲེན་ནུས་པ།
རང་ལས་ངེས་ཀྱི་ཚད་མའི་མཚན་ཉིད།
Definition: That which is 1) a valid cogniser and 2) able to induce ascertainment through its own power that it would not have arisen if the nature of its cognised-object did not exist on the basis of the object.

Divisions:

1. Sense direct valid cognisers to which the ability to perform a function appears
   དོན་བྱེད་སྣང་ཅན་གྱི་དབང་མངོན་གྱི་ཚད་མ།
   e.g. Sense consciousness apprehending fire's ability to perform the function of burning kindling
   མེས་བུས་ཤིང་བསྲེགས་པའི་དོན་བྱེད་ནུས་པར་འཛིན་པའི་དབང་མངོན།
2. Sense direct valid cognisers possessing a familiar object དོན་གོམས་པ་ཅན་གྱི་དབང་མངོན་གྱི་ཚད་མ།
   e.g. Sense consciousness in the continuum of a son apprehending his father's body
   བུའི་རྒྱུད་ཀྱི་ཕའི་གཟུགས་འཛིན་པའི་དབང་མངོན།
3. Self-knowing direct valid cognisers རང་རིག་མངོན་སུམ་གྱི་ཚད་མ།
   e.g. Self-knowing direct perceiver experiencing an eye consciousness མིག་ཤེས་ཉམས་སུ་མྱོང་བའི་རང་རིག་མངོན་སུམ།
4. Yogic direct valid cognisers རྣལ་འབྱོར་མངོན་སུམ་གྱི་ཚད་མ།
   e.g. Omniscience that is an other-knower mental consciousness གཞན་རིག་གི་ཡིད་ཤེས་སུ་གྱུར་པའི་རྣམ་མཁྱེན།
5. Inferential valid cognisers རྗེས་སུ་དཔག་པའི་ཚད་མ།
   e.g. Inferential cogniser realising sound as impermanent སྒྲ་མི་རྟག་རྟོགས་ཀྱི་རྗེས་དཔག
