Terminology relating to Pakṣa

(Purbuchok:) There are three referents for the term Pakṣa: ཕྱོགས་ཀྱི་སྒྲའི་འཇུག་གཞི་དེ་ལ་གསུམ་ཡོད་པ་ལས།

1. In "Property of the position in the proof of that" (ཕྱོགས་ཆོས། Pakṣadharma) it refers to the subject sought to be known in the proof of that.
   དེ་སྒྲུབ་ཀྱི་ཕྱོགས་ཆོས་ཞེས་པའི་ཕྱོགས་དེ་དེ་སྒྲུབ་ཀྱི་ཤེས་འདོད་ཆོས་ཅན་ལ་བྱེད།
   
   
2. In "Existing or not in the similar class in the proof of that" (མཐུན་ཕྱོགས་ལ་ཡོད་མེད།) and the "class of the related-object of the pervasion in the proof of that" (ཁྱབ་པའི་འབྲེལ་ཡུལ་གྱི་ཕྱོགས།), it refers to the property of the probandum in the proof of that, i.e. the generality-isolate of impermanent.
   དེ་སྒྲུབ་ཀྱི་མཐུན་ཕྱོགས་ལ་ཡོད་མེད་ཅེས་པའི་ཕྱོགས་དེ་དང་དེ་སྒྲུབ་ཀྱི་ཁྱབ་པའི་འབྲེལ་ཡུལ་གྱི་ཕྱོགས་དེ་གཉིས་
   དེ་སྒྲུབ་ཀྱི་བསྒྲུབ་བྱའི་ཆོས་སམ་མི་རྟག་པའི་སྤྱི་ལྡོག་ལ་བྱེད་ཀྱང༌།
   
   
3. In "The similar class in the proof of that" (མཐུན་ཕྱོགས། Sapakṣa) it refers to the generality-isolate and all the illustration-isolates of impermanent.
   དེ་སྒྲུབ་ཀྱི་མཐུན་ཕྱོགས་ཞེས་པའི་ཕྱོགས་དེ་ལ་མི་རྟག་པའི་སྤྱི་ལྡོག་དང་གཞི་ལྡོག་ཐམས་ཅད་འཇོག་དགོས་པའི་ཕྱིར།

Pramāṇavārttika adds a fourth:
In "The position in the proof of that" (དེ་སྒྲུབ་ཀྱི་ཕྱོགས།) it refers to the thesis; e.g. Sound is impermanent.
