Three Modes

The three modes:

1. Property of the position ཕྱོགས་ཆོས།
2. Forward pervasion རྗེས་ཁྱབ།
3. Reverse pervasion ལྡོག་ཁྱབ།

Three modes in Pramanavartika

The Eight Doors of a Consequence: ཐལ་འགྱུར་སྒོ་བརྒྱད་ནི།

1. Four correct pervasions: ཁྱབ་པ་རྣལ་མ་བཞི་ནི།
   1. Forward pervasion: If it is the sign, it is pervaded by being the predicate.
      རྟགས་དེ་ཡིན་ན། གསལ་བ་ཡིན་པས་ཁྱབ་པ། རྗེས་ཁྱབ།
   2. Back pervasion: If it is the predicate, it is pervaded by being the sign.
      གསལ་བ་ཡིན་ན། རྟགས་དེ་ཡིན་པས་ཁྱབ་པ། ཐུར་ཁྱབ།
   3. Reverse pervasion: If it is not the predicate, it is pervaded by not being the sign.
      གསལ་བ་མིན་ན། རྟགས་དེ་མིན་པས་ཁྱབ་པ། ལྡོག་ཁྱབ།
   4. Opposite pervasion: If it is not the sign, it is pervaded by not being the predicate.
      རྟགས་དེ་ཡིན་ན། གསལ་བ་མིན་པས་ཁྱབ་པ། འགལ་ཁྱབ།
2. Four incorrect pervasions: ཁྱབ་པ་པྱིན་ཅི་ལོག་པ་བཞི་ནི།
   1. Incorrect forward pervasion: If it is the sign, it is pervaded by not being the predicate.
      རྟགས་དེ་ཡིན་ན། གསལ་བ་མིན་པས་ཁྱབ་པ། རྗེས་ཁྱབ་ཕྱིན་ཅི་ལོག
   2. Incorrect back pervasion: If it is the predicate, it is pervaded by not being the sign.
      གསལ་བ་ཡིན་ན། རྟགས་དེ་མིན་པས་ཁྱབ་པ། ཐུར་ཁྱབ་ཕྱིན་ཅི་ལོག
   3. Incorrect reverse pervasion: If it is not the predicate, it is pervaded by not being not the sign.
      གསལ་བ་མིན་ན། རྟགས་དེ་མིན་པ་མིན་པས་ཁྱབ་པ། ལྡོག་ཁྱབ་ཕྱིན་ཅི་ལོག
   4. Incorrect opposite pervasion: If it is not the sign, it is pervaded by not being not the predicate.
      རྟགས་དེ་ཡིན་ན། གསལ་བ་མིན་པ་མིན་པས་ཁྱབ་པ། འགལ་ཁྱབ་ཕྱིན་ཅི་ལོག
