Objects of negation

Vaibhashika + Sautrantika:

Self of persons:

• Coarse: Permanent, unitary, independent self རྟག་གཅིག་རང་དབང་ཅན་གྱི་བདག
• Subtle: Self-sufficient substantially existent self རང་རྐྱ་ཐུབ་པའི་རྫས་ཡོད་ཀྱི་བདག

Self in relation to pot: The pot being the utilised-object of a self-sufficient substantially existent person.

It follows that they assert a self of phenomena because: དེས་ཆོས་བདག་ཁས་ལེན་པར་ཐལ།

1. They assert forms as truly established དེས་གཟུགས་བདེན་གྲུབ་ཏུ་ཁས་ལེན།
2. They assert forms as external objects དེས་གཟུགས་ཕྱི་རོལ་དོན་དུ་ཡང་ཁས་ལེན།
3. They assert form to be established by own-character as the conception-basis for the conception apprehending form གཟུགས་གཟུགས་འཛིན་རྟོག་པའི་ཞེན་གཞིར་རང་གི་མཚན་ཉིད་ཀྱིས་གྲུབ་པར་ཡང་ཁས་ལེན་པ་གང་ཞིག

And no self of phenomena other than these is explained. དེ་དག་ལས་གཞན་པའི་ཆོས་བདག་མ་བཤད་པའི་ཕྱིར།

Cittamatra:

གཟུགས་གཟུགས་འཛིན་དབང་ཤེས་དང་རྫས་གཞན་དུ་གྲུབ་པ།
Wrt non-conceptual consciousness: Form being established as a different substance from the sense-consciousness apprehending form.

Wrt conceptual consciousness: Form being established by way of its own-character as the the term-referent and conception-basis for the conceptual consciousness apprehending form.
གཟུགས་གཟུགས་འཛིན་རྟོག་པའི་ཞེན་གཞི་དང་བརྡ་འདོགས་པའི་གནས་སུ་རང་གི་མཚན་ཉིད་ཀྱིས་གྲུབ་པ།

འདུས་མ་བྱས་ཀྱི་ནམ་མཁའ་འདུས་མ་བྱས་ཀྱི་ནམ་མཁའ་ཞེས་པའི་སྒྲ་འཇུག་པའི་འཇུག་གཞིར་རང་གི་མཚན་ཉིད་ཀྱིས་གྲུབ་པ།
e.g. Uncompounded space being established by own-character as the referent for applying the term "uncompounded space".

བློ་(གནོད་མེད་)ལ་སྣང་བའི་དབང་གིས་བཞག་པ་མ་ཡིན་པར་ཡུལ་རང་གི་སྡོད་ལུགས་ཀྱི་ངོས་ནས་གྲུབ་པ།
Svatantrika: Established from the side of the object's mode of abiding without being posited through the force of appearing to (a non-faulty) awareness.
