Vaibhashika
རང་རིག་མི་འདོད་ཅིང་ཕྱི་དོན་བདེན་གྲུབ་ཏུ་འདོད་པའི་ཐེག་དམན་གྱི་གྲུབ་མཐའ་སྨྲ་བའི་གང་ཟག་དེ། བྱེ་བྲག་སྨྲ་བའི་མཚན་ཉིད།
Definition: A person propounding Hinayana tenets who does not assert self-knowers but does assert truly established external objects.
Divisions:
- Kashmiri ཁ་ཆེ་བྱེ་བྲག་སྨྲ་བ།
- Aparantikas (West) ཉི་འོག་པ།
- Maghadas (Central) ཡུལ་དབུས་ཀྱི་བྱེ་བྲག་སྨྲ་བ།
བཅོམ་པའམ་བློས་ཆ་ཤས་སོ་སོར་བསལ་བ་ན་རང་འཛིན་གྱི་བློས་འདོར་བའི་ཆོས་སུ་དམིགས་པ་དེ། ཀུན་རྫོབ་བདེན་པའི་མཚན་ཉིད།
Definition of Conventional Truth: That observed as a phenomenon whose apprehending awareness is lost when it is destroyed or mentally separated into parts.
བཅོམ་པའམ་བློས་སོ་སོར་བསལ་བ་ན་རང་འཛིན་གྱི་བློས་མི་འདོར་བའི་ཆོས་སུ་དམིགས་པ་དེ། དོན་དམ་བདེན་པའི་མཚན་ཉིད།
Definition of Ultimate Truth: That observed as a phenomenon whose apprehending awareness is not lost when it is destroyed or mentally separated into parts.
Eighteen Vaibhashika Schools (Jangkya tenets)
Four Root Subschools:
- Sarvāstivāda ཐམས་ཅད་ཡོད་པར་སྨྲ་བ།
Followers of Rāhula and recite the scriptures in Sanskrit; they are called as such due to propounding that the three times exist.
སྒྲ་གཅན་འཛིན་གྱི་རྗེས་སུ་འབྲངས་ཤིང་གསུང་རབ་ལེགས་སྦྱར་སྐད་དུ་འདོན་པ། དུས་གསུམ་ཡོད་པར་སྨྲ་བས་ཐམས་ཅད་ཡོད་སྨྲ་པ་ཞེས་པ་དང་། - Mahāsāṃghika ཕལ་ཆེན་པ།
Followers of Mahākāśyapa and recite the scriptures in Prākrit; they are called as such since during the division, most of the sangha joined this group. གནས་བརྟན་འོད་སྲུངས་ཆེན་པོའི་རྗེས་སུ་འབྲངས་ཤིང་།
གསུང་རབ་རང་བཞིན་སྐད་དུ་འདོན་པ། གྱེས་པའི་ཚེ་དགེ་འདུན་ཕལ་ཆེ་བ་ཕྱོགས་འདིར་འདུས་པས་ཕལ་ཆེན་པ་ཞེས་པ་དང་། - Sthavira གནས་བརྟན་པ།
They recite the scriptures in Piśāci and are called as such due to propounding the Elders as the Arya lineage. གསུང་རབ་ཤ་ཟའི་སྐད་ཀྱིས་འདོན་པ། གནས་བརྟན་འཕགས་པའི་རིགས་ཡིན་པར་སྨྲ་བས་གནས་བརྟན་པ་ཞེས་པ། - Saṃmittīya མང་བཀུར་བ།
Followers of Upāli and recite the scriptures in Apabhraṃśa; they are called as such due to being the lineage of many being offering service.
ཉེ་བར་འཁོར་གྱི་རྗེས་སུ་འབྲངས་ཤིང་། གསུང་རབ་ཟུར་ཆག་སྐད་གྱིས་འདོན་པ། སྐྱེ་བོ་མང་པོས་བཀུར་སྟི་བྱས་པའི་རིགས་ཡིན་པས་མང་བཀུར་བ་ཞེས་པ།
