Chapter 3
ལེའུ་གསུམ་པ་བྱང་སེམས་གཟུང་བ།
Taking up Bodhicitta
སེམས་ཅན་ཀུན་གྱི་ངན་སོང་གི། །སྡུག་བསྔལ་ངལ་བསོའི་དགེ་བ་དང་།
།སྡུག་བསྔལ་ཅན་དག་བདེར་གནས་ལ། །དགའ་བས་རྗེས་སུ་ཡི་རང་ངོ་།
Gladly do I rejoice
In the virtue that relieves the misery
Of all those in unfortunate states
And that gives happiness to those suffering. [1]
།བྱང་ཆུབ་རྒྱུར་གྱུར་དགེ་བསགས་པ། །དེ་ལ་རྗེས་སུ་ཡི་རང་ངོ་།
།ལུས་ཅན་འཁོར་བའི་སྡུག་བསྔལ་ལས། །ངེས་པར་ཐར་ལ་ཡི་རང་ངོ་།
I rejoice in that gathering of virtue
That is the cause for (the Arhat's) Awakening.
I rejoice in the definite freedom of embodied creatures
From the miseries of cyclic existence. [2]
།སྐྱོབ་པ་རྣམས་ཀྱི་བྱང་ཆུབ་དང་། །རྒྱལ་སྲས་ས་ལའང་ཡི་རང་ངོ་།
I rejoice in the Awakening of the Buddhas,
And also in the spiritual levels of their children. [3]
།སེམས་ཅན་ཐམས་ཅད་བདེ་མཛད་པའི། །ཐུགས་བསྐྱེད་དགེ་བ་རྒྱ་མཚོ་དང་།
།སེམས་ཅན་ཕན་པ་མཛད་པ་ལ། །དགའ་བས་རྗེས་སུ་ཡི་རང་ངོ་།
And with gladness I rejoice
In the ocean of virtue, for developing an Awakening Mind
That wishes all beings to be happy,
As well as in the deeds that bring them benefit. [4]
།ཕྱོགས་རྣམས་ཀུན་གྱི་སངས་རྒྱས་ལ། །ཐལ་མོ་སྦྱར་ཏེ་གསོལ་བ་ནི།
།སེམས་ཅན་སྡུག་བསྔལ་མུན་འཐོམས་ལ། །ཆོས་ཀྱི་སྒྲོན་མེ་སྦར་དུ་གསོལ།
With folded hand, I beseech
The Buddhas of all directions
To shine the lamp of Dharma
For all bewildered in misery's gloom. [5]
།རྒྱལ་བ་མྱ་ངན་འདའ་བཞེད་ལ། །ཐལ་མོ་སྦྱར་ཏེ་གསོལ་བ་ནི།
།འགྲོ་འདི་ལྡོངས་པར་མི་འགོད་ཅིང་། །བསྐལ་པ་གྲངས་མེད་བཞུགས་པར་གསོལ།
With folded hands, I beseech
The Conquerors who wish to pass away
To please remain for countless eons,
And not to leave the world in darkness. [6]
།དེ་ལྟར་འདི་དག་ཀུན་བྱས་ཏེ། །དགེ་བ་བདག་གིས་བསགས་པ་གང་།
།དེས་ནི་སེམས་ཅན་ཐམས་ཅད་ཀྱི། །སྡུག་བསྔལ་ཐམས་ཅད་བསལ་བར་ཤོག
Thus by the virtue collected
Through all that I have done,
May the pain of every living creature
Be completely cleared away. [7]
།འགྲོ་བ་ནད་པ་ཇི་སྲིད་དུ། །ནད་སོས་གྱུར་གྱི་བར་དུ་ནི།
།སྨན་དང་སྨན་པ་ཉིད་དག་དང་། །དེ་ཡི་ནད་གཡོག་བྱེད་པར་ཤོག
May I be the doctor, the medicine
And may I be the nurse
For all sick beings in the world,
Until everyone is healed. [8]
།ཟས་དང་སྐོམ་གྱི་ཆར་ཕབ་སྟེ། །བཀྲེས་དང་སྐོམ་པའི་སྡུག་བསྔལ་བསལ།
།མུ་གེའི་བསྐལ་པ་བར་མའི་ཚེ། །བདག་ནི་ཟས་དང་སྐོ མ་དུ་གྱུར།
May a rain of food and drink descend
To clear away the pain of thirst and hunger,
And during the eon of famine
May I myself change into food and drink. [9]
།སེམས་ཅན་ཕོངས་ཤིང་དབུལ་བ་ལ། །བདག་ནི་མི་ཟད་གཏེར་གྱུར་ཏེ།
།ཡོ་བྱད་མཁོ་དགུ་སྣ་ཚོགས་སུ། །མདུན་ན་ཉེ་བར་གནས་གྱུར་ཅིག
May I become an inexhaustible treasure
For those who are poor and destitute;
May I turn into all things they could need
And be placed close beside them. [10]
།ལུས་དང་དེ་བཞིན་ལོངས་སྤྱོད་དང་། །དུས་གསུམ་དགེ་བ་ཐམས་ཅད་ཀྱང་།
།སེམས་ཅན་ཀུན་གྱི་དོན་བསྒྲུབ་ཕྱིར། །ཕངས་པ་མེད་པར་གཏང་བར་བྱ།
Also my body and possessions
And all virtues of the three times
I will give away without regret
To achieve the purpose of all sentient beings. [11]
།ཐམས་ཅད་བཏང་བས་མྱ་ངན་འདའ། །བདག་བློ་མྱ་ངན་འདས་པ་བསྒྲུབ།
By giving up all, sorrow is transcended
And my mind will realise the sorrowless state. [12ab]
།ཐམས་ཅད་གཏོང་བར་ཆབས་གཅིག་ལ། །སེམས་ཅན་རྣམས་ལ་བཏང་བ་མཆོག
To surrender everything at once
Is the supreme offering for sentient beings. [12cd]
།བདག་གིས་ལུས་ཅན་ཐམས་ཅད་ལ། །ལུས་འདི་ཅི་བདེར་བྱིན་ཟིན་གྱིས།
།རྟག་ཏུ་གསོད་དང་སྨོད་པའམ། །བརྡེག་སོགས་ཅི་དགར་བྱེད་ལ་རག
Having given this body up
For the pleasure of all living beings,
By killing, abusing and beating it
May they always do as they please. [13]
།བདག་གི་ལུས་ལ་རྩེ་བྱེད་དམ། །ཅོ་འདྲི་ག་ཞའི་རྒྱུ་བྱེད་ཀྱང་།
།བདག་གི་ལུས་འདི་བྱིན་ཟིན་གྱིས། །འདི་ཡི་ཁ་ཏས་ཅི་ཞིག་བྱ།
Although they may play with my body
And make it a source of jest and blame,
Because I have given it up to them
What is the use of holding it dear? [14]
།དེ་ལ་གནོད་པར་མི་འགྱུར་བའི། །ལས་གང་ཡིན་པའང་བྱེད་དུ་ཆུག
Therefore I shall let them do anything to it
That does not cause them any harm, [15ab]
།བདག་ལ་དམིགས་ནས་ནམ་དུ་ཡང་། །འགའ་ཡང་དོན་མེད་མ་གྱུར་ཅིག
And when anyone encounters me
May it never be meaningless for him. [15cd]
།བདག་ལ་དམིགས་ནས་གང་དག་གིས། །ཁྲོའམ་དད་པའི་སེམས་བྱུང་བ།
།དེ་ཉིད་རྟག་ཏུ་དེ་དག་གི །དོན་ཀུན་འགྲུབ་པའི་རྒྱུར་གྱུར་ཅིག
Whoever looks to me,
Whether they generated a mind of anger or faith,
May it become the cause
That I always accomplish all their purposes. [16]
།གང་དག་བདག་ལ་ཁ་ཟེར་རམ། །གཞན་དག་གནོད་པ་བྱེད་པའམ།
།དེ་བཞིན་ཕྱར་ཀ་གཏོང་ཡང་རུང་། །ཐམས་ཅད་བྱང་ཆུབ་སྐལ་ལྡན་གྱུར།
May all who say bad things to me
Or cause me any other harm,
And those who mock and insult me
Have the fortune to fully awaken. [17]
།བདག་ནི་མགོན་མེད་རྣམས་ཀྱི་མགོན། །ལམ་ཞུགས་རྣམས་ཀྱི་དེད་དཔོན་དང་།
།བརྒལ་འདོད་རྣམས་ཀྱི་གྲུ་དང་ནི། །གཟིངས་དང་ཟམ་པ་ཉིད་དུ་གྱུར།
May I be protector for those without one,
A guide for all travellers on the way;
May I be a bridge, a boat and a ship
For all who wish to cross (the water). [18]
།གླིང་དོན་གཉེར་ལ་གླིང་དང་ནི། །མར་མེ་འདོད་ལ་མར་མེ་དང་།
།གནས་མལ་འདོད་ལ་གནས་མལ་དང་། །བདག་ནི་ལུས་ཅན་བྲན་འདོད་པ། །ཀུན་གྱི་བྲན་དུ་གྱུར་པར་ཤོག
May I be an island for those who seek one
And a lamp for those desiring light,
May I be a bed for all who wish to rest
And a slave for all who want a slave. [19]
།ཡིད་བཞིན་ནོར་དང་བུམ་པ་བཟང་། །རིག་སྔགས་གྲུབ་དང་སྨན་ཆེན་དང་།
།དཔག་བསམ་གྱི་ནི་ཤིང་དག་དང་། །ལུས་ཅན་རྣམས་ཀྱི་འདོད་འཇོར་གྱུར།
May I be a wishing jewel, a magic vase,
Powerful mantras and great medicine,
May I become a wish‐fulfilling tree
And a cow of plenty for the world. [20]
།ས་སོགས་འབྱུང་བ་ཆེན་པོ་དང་། །ནམ་མཁའ་བཞིན་དུ་རྟག་པར་ཡང་།
།སེམས་ཅན་དཔག་ཏུ་མེད་པ་ཡི། །རྣམ་མང་ཉེར་འཚོའི་གཞིར་ཡང་ཤོག
Just like space
And the great elements such as earth,
May I always support the life
Of all the boundless creatures. [21]
།དེ་བཞིན་ནམ་མཁའི་མཐས་གཏུགས་པའི། །སེམས་ཅན་ཁམས་ལ་རྣམ་ཀུན་ཏུ།
།ཐམས་ཅད་མྱ་ངན་འདས་བར་དུ། །བདག་ནི་ཉེར་འཚོའི་རྒྱུར་ཡང་ཤོག
And until they pass away from pain
May I also be the source of life
For all the realms of varied beings
That reach unto the ends of space. [22]
།ཇི་ལྟར་སྔོན་གྱི་བདེ་གཤེགས་ཀྱིས། །བྱང་ཆུབ་ཐུགས་ནི་བསྐྱེད་པ་དང་།
།བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་དཔའི་བསླབ་པ་ལ། །དེ་དག་རིམ་བཞིན་གནས་པ་ལྟར།
།དེ་བཞིན་འགྲོ་ལ་ཕན་དོན་དུ། །བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་ནི་བསྐྱེད་བགྱི་ཞིང་།
།དེ་བཞིན་དུ་ནི་བསླབ་པ་ལའང་། །རིམ་པ་བཞིན་དུ་བསླབ་པར་བགྱི།
Just as the previous Sugatas
Generated the mind of enlightenment,
And gradually abided
In the Bodhisattva practices; [23]
Likewise, for the welfare of all migrators
I generate the mind of enlightenment,
And likewise will
Gradually train in the practices. [24]
།དེ་ལྟར་བློ་དང་ལྡན་པ་ཡིས། །རབ་དང་བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་བཟུང་ནས།
།མཇུག་ཀྱང་རྒྱས་པར་བྱ་བའི་ཕྱིར། །སེམས་ནི་འདི་ལྟར་གཟེངས་བསྟོད་དོ།
In order to further increase it from now on,
Those with discernment who have lucidly seized
An Awakening Mind in this way,
Should highly praise it in the following manner: [25]
།དེང་དུས་བདག་ཚེ་འབྲས་བུ་ཡོད། །མི་ཡི་སྲིད་པ་ལེགས་པར་ཐོབ།
།དེ་རིང་སངས་རྒྱས་རིགས་སུ་སྐྱེས། །སངས་རྒྱས་སྲས་སུ་ད་གྱུར་ཏོ།
Today my life has become fruitful;
(Having) well attained this human existence,
Today I was born into the buddha family
Now I have become a child of the buddhas. [26]
།ད་ནི་བདག་གིས་ཅི་ནས་ཀྱང་། །རིགས་དང་མཐུན་པའི་ལས་བརྩམས་ཏེ།
།སྐྱོན་མེད་བཙུན་པའི་རིགས་འདི་ལ། །རྙོག་པར་མི་འགྱུར་དེ་ལྟར་བྱ།
Now I shall as much as possible
Engage in actions befitting the lineage
I shall in a way so as not to dirty
This faultless and holy lineage. [27]
།ལོང་བས་ཕྱག་དར་ཕུང་པོ་ལས། །ཇི་ལྟར་རིན་ཆེན་རྙེད་པ་ལྟར།
།དེ་བཞིན་ཇི་ཞིག་ལྟར་སྟེས་ནས། །བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་འདི་བདག་ལ་སྐྱེས།
Just like a blind man
Discovering a jewel in a heap of rubbish,
Likewise by some coincidence
An Awakening Mind has been born within me. [28]
།འགྲོ་བའི་འཆི་བདག་འཇོམས་བྱེད་པའི། །བདུད་རྩི་མཆོག་ཀྱང་འདི་ཡིན་ནོ།
It is the supreme ambrosia
That overcomes the sovereignty of death, [29ab]
།འགྲོ་བའི་དབུལ་བ་སེལ་བ་ཡི། །མི་ཟད་གཏེར་ཡང་འདི་ཡིན་ནོ།
It is also the inexhaustible treasure
That eliminates the poverty of sentient beings. [29cd]
།འགྲོ་བའི་ནད་རབ་ཞི་བྱེད་པའི། །སྨན་གྱི་མཆོག་ཀྱང་འདི་ཡིན་ནོ།
It is also the supreme medicine
That destroys the strong diseases of migrators. [30ab]
།སྲིད་ལམ་འཁྱམ་ཞིང་དུབ་པ་ཡི། །འགྲོ་བའི་ངལ་བསོའི་ལྗོན་ཤིང་ཡིན།
It is the fruit tree that is a resting place for migrators
That wander in existence and are tired. [30cd]
།འགྲོ་བ་ཐམས་ཅད་ངན་འགྲོ་ལས། །སྒྲོལ་བར་བྱེད་པའི་སྤྱི་སྟེགས་ཡིན།
It is the universal bridge that liberates
All migrators from the lower realms. [31ab]
།འགྲོ་བའི་ཉོན་མོངས་གདུང་སེལ་བའི། །སེམས་ཀྱི་ཟླ་བ་ཤར་བ་ཡིན།
It is the moon shining in the mind
That eliminates the misery of the afflictions of migrators. [31cd]
།འགྲོ་བའི་མི་ཤེས་རབ་རིབ་དག །དཔྱིས་འབྱིན་ཉི་མ་ཆེན་པོ་ཡིན།
It is the great sun that dispels
The eye sickness of not knowing. [32ab]
།དམ་ཆོས་འོ་མ་བསྲུབས་པ་ལས། །མར་གྱི་ཉིང་ཁུ་ཕྱུང་བ་ཡིན།
It is the essence of butter
That is derived from churning the milk of Dharma. [32cd]
།འགྲོ་བའི་མགྲོན་པོ་སྲིད་པའི་ལམ་རྒྱུ་ཞིང་། །བདེ་བའི་ལོངས་སྤྱོད་སྤྱད་པར་འདོད་པ་ལ།
།འདི་ནི་བདེ་བའི་མཆོག་ཏུ་ཉེར་གནས་ཏེ། །སེམས་ཅན་མགྲོན་ཆེན་ཚིམ་པར་བྱེད་པ་ཡིན།
The migrating guests wander on the paths of existence
And wish to engage pleasant enjoyments;
It abides close to supreme happiness
And satisfies sentient beings with a great feast. [33]
།བདག་གིས་དེ་རིང་སྐྱོབ་པ་ཐམས་ཅད་ཀྱི། །སྤྱན་སྔར་འགྲོ་བ་བདེ་གཤེགས་ཉིད་དང་ནི།
།བར་དུ་བདེ་ལ་མགྲོན་དུ་བོས་ཟིན་གྱིས། །ལྷ་དང་ལྷ་མིན་ལ་སོགས་དགའ་བར་གྱིས། །
Today in the presence of all the Protectors,
I invite migrators and the Sugatas to
A feast of delights,
May gods, non-gods and so forth be joyful. [34]
